May I kindly ask sir @abrod520 regarding the packaging / box etc that came with the Carrera Silver 160 ? I hope it also has a nice design to commemorate a great milestone for Heuer / TAG Heuer 😀

Yeah, it is a pretty nice box and definitely a departure from the so-so boxes TAG has been doing. Happily, it isn't bigger though! (I don't care for those enormous watch boxes, especially as they stack up in my closet!)

It comes with a nice loupe, and the watch pillow is inside a neat little leather travel case. I quite liked that 😀

Thanks for the point by point response. Keeping this one simple just to acknowledge and say thanks.

Always happy to discuss 😉 And I don't think anyone here minds a little thread drift, so post away!

Nice box!
It's interesting that it comes in a Breitling like travel case and with an Omega like magnifying loupe. But I like it! 😀

Caseback as mentioned yesterday:

That does look good. I see what you mean about the finishing improvements.👍

I suppose! I don't own any Breitlings (modern or vintage) so can't speak to the similarity of the travel case. But the loupe isn't quite like the ones Omega supplies - those have a rubber gasket at the watch end, so as to avoid any scratching whatsoever. This one doesn't, but since the watch crystal is sapphire it's likely not a big deal. More significantly though, is TAG suggesting this watch is worth viewing under a loupe (it is) which I don't believe has been part of other TAG packages, at least to my knowledge?

Yeah, from the back it definitely looks like a $6500 watch, unlike the ugly Sellitas in previous models. The Heuer-02 even looks nicer here than in the Autavias, too.

certainly looks like they’ve upped the game on this one. That’s a nicely finished case-back and rear view.

Would you say there’s any difference in the strap/clasp?

Actually yeah, I was a bit struck by how much nicer the strap was than other TAG offerings. But then I'm comparing to memory, as the last croc-type strap I had from TAG was years ago on my Monaco Cal 12. It's very nice and supple, well-finished and thin befitting a vintage-style watch.

The clasp is nice but I haven't seen a steel TAG clasp in some time; last one I had would have been the Skipper but I can't remember it very well (I almost never wear watches on their original straps, and certainly not on deployant as I don't like the bulk they add).

The Skipper came on the Corfam-style rally strap though which isn't comparable - Corfam was a synthetic material and was a bit stiffer than a supple leather strap. TAG's version of Corfam-style straps are really nice-looking IMO, if a bit on the thick side for smaller vintage-look watches.

Thanks for the “unboxing” of the box sir @abrod520 👍

Just to put it on record, is this the first time a magnifying loupe is included in a LE TAG Heuer package?

This was my point. Not that TH is copying Breitling's case (but it does look similar) or Omega's loupe, but rather this is the first time I've seen TH provide this type of box presentation packaging with their mechanical watches. (I believe the latest Connected also comes in a slightly different looking travel case.)

Ah yeah. I haven't purchased any other new TAGs but this does seem to be a new direction in packaging, at least for the LE. I quite like it 😀

That render of the 160 clearly misrepresents the visibility of the chapter ring when viewed head-on 😒

Absolutely correct. That render is misleading and it minimizes the loss of visibility.

From your photo you can see how significant the ring is.

From Hodinkee's photo.

If you shift the visible dial to the edge, you can see how much area is lost.
