If you really loathe it that much, why do you keep buying Carreras with the glassbox? If I'm not mistaken, the 160 will be your third. LOL. 🤨

Great work @Hubert! The 39mm heritage Carrera's do suffer from choices made in the past. Instead of redesigning the case entirely TH chose the Telemeter specs with updated dials. It looks really good in comparison to previous releases but those fine vintage Carrera proportions are lost. I do think only the purists complain 😉
Besides the thicker case, domed crystal and wide milky ring, the bezel is another issue. Slim, narrow and straight on the original. Thicker, wider and rounded on the new ones. In combination with the domed crystal it looks a bit like a teacake.
Your 2447 39mm example does show the original sharp lugs could work on a 39mm watch. I assumed they would be too long and sharp, perhaps overshooting the wrist.

However, what drives mad is when an original design is degraded, instead of improving it.

If you look at the perfect proportions of the 2447s original (below), you can see that re-edition looks bloated, softened, and lost its masculine edge.
If the 2447s is perfect, then how can it be improved? 😝

To add my opinion, fwiw, I think you're absolutely right about the proportions and the glassbox, but it doesn't annoy me as much as the case thickness, which is what I think the article was mainly referring to when it said it looked fat.

I don’t mind the thickness of the Carrera 160 due to CH02 movement but to call it “fatboy” from the article is kinda ridiculous :whipped: Call it whatever you like! 🫨Sometimes I just want to appreciate the beauty and artwork of this Carrera 160 & be thankful!

Iconic design, great movement, vintage & modern package into one ::psy::

The purist vintage guys might disagree, with this and with that, etc..etc.. but I will not be surprised if this becomes a stellar Heuer/TAG Heuer Re-Edition judging from the anticipation-hype and alot of generally positive reviews/vlogs even from Non-Heuer/Non-TAG Heuer watch enthusiasts. I’m a “poorist” but I’d definitely saved up for this 😜

By the way, I’ve received alot of encouraging compliments from my Carrera Telemeter 39mm even from “other brands” watch collectors and some who even think of TAG Heuer otherwise. 🥰 I’m kinda expecting this Carrera 160 will be atleast at par or even more 😉

My only wish for this 160th would have been for it to be a 41mm Case.
I think it would have been better larger and maybe the proportions would have looked better.

Just my opinion.

Diameter is perfect for a vintage inspired piece to me. My only wish would have been for the price to be lower. OK, and a panda dial. And thinner. With a manual wind version of the Heuer 02.

One of the comments in the Hodinkee article, referred to the H02 as the "fat boy". You can understand why, when comparing them side-by-side. Here I placed resized photos with roughly the same dial diameter, to illustrate how the proportions differ.
Confession:
I am perfectly fine with the case / dial proportions of the 160th. But I had never really noticed the difference between the original 1960s models and the modern heritage re-issues until @Yago pointed it out to me. Truth is I notice the wider space between dial and case even less when viewing on-the-wrist shots.

Question:
To me the question is why...
- Is this a design choice?
- Or is there a technical limitation and this as close as they can get with the current case?

I'd guess it's something to do with the case, but then modern TAG aren't exactly very good at design so who knows.

That said, I quite like this one and think it'll be great on the wrist. We'll see how I feel after wearing it but I can't wait!

Can't wait for deliveries to start and seeing some pics posted here. 😀
I'm still on the fence, but more live pics might just nudge me to pull the trigger. 😗

great to see some news at last. I note that they reference ‘collection’ and not edition. Which suggests there may be more than one. Anyone know anything about that?
CBK221A - Fujiwara
CBK221B - Silver 160th Anniversary
There's supposed to be a 2nd Anniversary edition this year. We've talked those rumors several times in the past.

thanks. I did recall something in terms of rumours, but had not seen specific TH announcements. I’d put out 2 + 2 together that Jonny come lately in their design story would feature large in a collection to mark 160 years of history.

It’ll be interesting to see what else they add to the collection. A box set of each of their iconic models reissued would be very cool! Monaco, Autavia, Carrera, Monza, Connected and a t model?

Maybe a Carrera Boxset for the 60th Anniversary in 2023 would be interesting, like what we had for the Monaco last year.

I'm on the fence too. The video on the Tag website is certainly nudging me towards placing the order. But I've only recently landed my vintage Autavia, so not sure I can realistically buy this without letting something else go. Plus I'm also minded to wait and see what this other model is that is supposedly due later in the year. I reckon I'll be able to pick up one of these Carreras at some point if need be (and hopefully not at a premium given the quantity being made).
