Why not just two RS6s?
Surely the F type is a lot better looking than an estate? And I haven't driven either, but surely a coupe will have marginally better handling and dynamics.

I've not driven the current rs6, the old one was epic. Very different car to a f-type thou, more like a very fast bungalow than a sports car.

Me?

I would go two characters and two numbers:

M3 V8 manual.

Meh. They lost me after the e46 m3.

Just had a quick search for RS6 Avants. There's only one available within a reasonable distance from me. It's a 2004 model with 4 previous owners and it's £24,000! I can buy out my 2019 Jaguar XF Sportbrake with 5000 miles on the clock for less than that.

Well, yes!

but surely a coupe will have marginally better handling and dynamics.

You would think.

TBH, I'm not quite sure I follow the logic of suggesting a fast, estate when you want a coupe 😵‍💫.

that seems very expensive for a c5 unless the prices have gone nuts since I last looked. I think a c5 rs6 is normally around 12k

With a 17yo RS6 it’s not the purchase price that will drain your wallet 😁

Is this not a bit like comparing apples with oranges.

this is why I bought the 2.7 biturbo not the rs6 a few years ago, with hindsight I massively regret not sucking it up and buying the RS!

Oh I thought we were looking at new F-Types. A new RS6 under warranty yes; an older RS6 very no.

What are forum members' thoughts on the Jaguar F-Type? I currently have an XF and am seriously considering switching to something a bit more sporty, but ideally something that I can get a set of golf clubs in the back of. Seems like you get a lot of car for the money if you buy used as Jaguars depreciate so quickly 😀
I had a convertible for 3 years, drove the heck out of it. Loved it. It was the middle model with the 380hp V6. Handled and drove great. I miss it and have been looking at them as a great buy on the used market. Went for an XJ when my lease was up. Now in need to replace a car. I’d say it is a great choice.

If I got an F-type it would likely be 2-3 years old. New Jags tend to depreciate quite quickly.

I am not looking at the convertible version - would only be interested in the hard top. I owned a few convertibles when I was younger, but due to developing hay fever in later life, I wouldn't be able to use a soft top much in the short period when the sun is out in the UK. Sun burn not good for my thinning hairline either! 😀 I also think a soft-top compromises the handling, ride comfort, and wind noise. Plus they tend to be too hot in summer and too cold in winter. Great fun of course, but as I said before, I'm more about comfort and refinement these days. Sorry to be so down on them, but if you like them, then by all means go for it! 😀

I've changed my car over recently.

I've always loved the 6 series BMWs- I used to have this black M635i and then when I lived in NZ I had a 650i

Unfortunately, I don't have a garage, so I decided to sell the M635i and have replaced it with a gently used M850i

It's not a small car, but goes hard!

BMW haven't made anything this pretty in a very long time.

That’s a stunning m635, I really miss my e24, there are many cars I should have let go sooner, but the e24 is the one I should have hung on to.

I've not got much regard for what BMW has done to itself in the last decade or so but I always thought the 8-Series Grand Coupe deserved more recognition as a high point 👍

Assuming that you referring to the modern 8 series, I prefer the original 8. The 840i was probably the pick unless you really didn't care about fuel consumption, in which case the V12 850i was it.

Well sure, but they're not comparable at all really. This is a sedan, for instance. And the original 8 wasn't a very good car, just a landmark design - a total nightmare to own though unfortunately

The same can be said of a great many cars of its era and quite a few newer cars. I recall Clarkson bemoaning the AMGs that he owned.
