I noticed today T&T had to disable comments on their post about Swatch Group having their LBGTQ Watches seized in Malaysia.

Not sure what they expected really.
Stay in your own lane and just cover Watches. Forget about trying to be the Social Justice Police.

Have they taken the post down? Can't find it...

TAG is at an interesting crossroad...
These youtube reviews are a dime a dozen. The title is a great prelude of the quality entertainment that awaits beyond the bait click.

if Australia already sold 38 then that’s a good sign. These aren’t your everyday Carreras. Spending close to 7k on a watch with limited wearability isn’t that straightforward. We might all love it but chronographs with light blue and orange dials aren’t exactly topping the sales charts.
The choice of the TAG Heuer badge is in line with their strategy and the Skipper was probably a good reference to try it. I would have liked a Skipper only dial though. More than enough Carreras in the line-up and in my collection for that matter.

The acid test will not be the sales of the Skipper but the sales of the glassboxes in general. I expect the 39mm won’t perform as expected but would like to be proven wrong. I really like the visual play of the new bezel and crystal but it seems a bit crowded and lost on the 39mm. It wears quite a bit smaller than the 60th and you feel the thickness more. The glassbox design really works on the 42mm however. The new 42mm in the old case looks terribly dated compared to the tourbillon. I hope they’ll launch a standard range of 42mm glassboxes next. These might sell very well. Nothing remotely similar out there.
I couldn't agree more, i think Tag is shooting itself in the foot and stunting its growth...the 39mm glass box by design alienates a large portion of their customer base...all the heur 01, cal 16, heur 02, 1887,--45mm, 44mm, 43mm carrera fans..who drool over pics of the new glass box and then saw it in person...its two small for many buyers but what perplexes me is they have the solution, the 42mm glassbox case for the tourbillon, make it availble for the standard chrono

I have a vested intrest in seeing them succeed but it is intresting watching the brand shift ..
44mm to 39mm carreras

39mm-36mm carreras

Even the shift to 40mm aqua racer--
All of the smaller options has more variations and newer/ better movements

I watch blogs praise the return of smaller watch sizes for men but in real iife... there seem to be a disconnect between the vocal few and the actual buying customers

I believe there’s a market for both. Indeed the Hodinkee crowd praises smaller watches and I also quite like good examples of that. Baltic last week reduced the size of their best selling models from 38mm to 36.5mm and they look the part. I love wearing my 36mm 3647 Carrera and don’t find it too small.
However reducing the diameter but keeping the thickness is troublesome. It just looks weird, unbalanced. For some reason the new case and lug design makes the 39mm appear thicker than the previous glassboxes. At the same time the new dial and bezel construct appears smaller. The combination simply doesn’t work for me.
The Skipper doesn’t have the cluttered dial issue and looks very good. The thickness remains an issue.
At the same time the 42mm glassbox tourbillon wears a lot like a 40mm watch which I think is great. It solves the diameter/thickness ratio issue and clears up the cluttered dial issue. I think the Skipper would have been a marvel in the 42mm tourbillon case. Can’t quite believe I’m writing this.
Still I suppose the 42mm won’t please the 44mm crowd.

Sometimes it's the littlest detail that stops me from buying. I always thought the original '90s Carrera re-editions were great, arguably the most faithful TAG Heuer has ever made. But the lack of "Carrera" on the dial was a show stopper for me. Similarly, when TAG added "Carrera" to its dial but changed "Heuer" to "TAG Heuer", it was still a no go.

With the Skipper, having "Carrera" instead of "Skipper" and then squeezing "Skipper" into the subdial, just rubs me the wrong way. I do like the new Skipper, but every time I look at the original I can't help but think of what could've been.

could anyone (or any two people) have said less in 9 minutes and 30 seconds?

I love how they fall back on the tried and trusted 'Ho ho, all 80s and 90s TAGs were rubbish' cliched nonsense. Plenty of lovely 80s and 90s TAGs thanks, and it's not like other brands 80s and 90s watches were perfect either.

"not so tasteful" was how they actually put it. Taste is an individual thing clearly, but I happen to agree with them I'm afraid. I'm sure there were some nicer pieces too, but I guess it's a generalisation.

I do like watching their stuff, but a lot of it does seem to be clickbait of late.

Then there’s About Effing Time, who are still at Watches and Wioders!!!

I can't watch About Effing Time. They've tried to mimic the success of Clarkson, Hammond and May, and it could be great, but they need a script to be honest - it's too painful to listen to them all interrupting each other and getting sidetracked from points at the moment.

Totally agree. It started off well but seems to have long since peaked by the looks of things.

As I say, whether you agree or not is completely a matter of personal taste. I do really like a couple of those watches, though (can you guess which two?).

So my point really was that writing off 15 years of production is a bit ridiculous. Yes sure there are two tone watches up the wazoo, but it was the same if you look at other brands.

Nobody's giving Chopard a hard time.... can you believe this is supposedly the inspiration for the Alpine Eagle.

Guarantee if this had a TAG Heuer badge on it it would be 100% trash

I want to like it, but they talk over each other way too much.

Maybe you're right, we can't only blame TAG for what happened in the 80s

Agree 100%. It's like they've taken the success of the first season and it's really gone to their heads. Well maybe not all of them but one in particular.

For some reason the new case and lug design makes the 39mm appear thicker than the previous glassboxes.

I checked, the new 39 glassbox is just a tad slimmer than the previous one.

It seemed slightly slimmer to me too when I compared them side by side. I was told the US Boutiques have now sold out their initial allocations.

Great side by side, @Mspeedster! I still don't understand the need for a patchy deep curved inner bezel when compared to the silver panda.

What I'd love to see is prototypes prior to the new production model Glassbox. CNC/3D printed, whatever. Would be really interesting to see how TH landed on design solutions. (e.g. did a version without the deep inner bezel exist at some point?)

It's quite possible that the new Glassbox went straight from artist's sketch to Photoshop to something close to what launched, and alt versions of dial + case combos don't exist. Would be interesting to know the journey either way.
