It's fairly cheap for a TAG Heuer badge on the dial so I understand this collection sells well. I also believe such watches damage the overall brand perception but money talks, even if it's short term money. I was looking at the Tissot PRX automatic chrono yesterday and thinking 1600 euro is too much. An absolute freakin bargain compared to these F1s...

 

There are a couple of things I like about the idea of these chronos, but there are even more things I vigorously dislike re. their execution.

So all in all a hard pass. And yes - also leaning towards the opinion that the very entry-level F1s could ultimately be a bit brand damaging overall.

 

I know, I really try to find my hate for TAG so I can fit in here but in the case of these new colourful F1's, I just find them to be cheap fun summer watches that shouldn't be taken too seriously. Quartz makes perfect sense for a timepiece you occasionally pick up for the weekend or vacation days, waterproof, mega fun and colourful. The question to me is why TAG waited this long to bring more colour into the cheap F1 line, I hope we get to see colourful smaller three handers too next year

Affordable luxury is all about branding and how others perceive your ability to afford a particular brand, I would say getting the TAG Heuer brand on wrist for this amount of money have to be considered cheap.

I like it overall, the PVD bezel is a nice way to give it the classic F1 look while keeping materials more durable. Maybe the colors aren't the best, I think the red rings around the subdials on the green model are a step too far (par for the course with TAG, still, sadly) but it's fun in a way the F1 lineup hasn't really been in a while

 

Yes, absolutely. If only they were white, it would have helped a lot

My Moonswatch was only 250 euro but this 1850 euro F1 is indeed cheaper.

 

I wouldn't mind betting the TAG F1 outlasts the Moonswatch though.

 

And a lot easier to get hold of I should wager.

Completely different customers at completely different price points though. And I'm sure TAG Heuer would argue they sell 50 disgusting F1s for every glassbox Carrera.

 

Price points shouldn’t matter. You can see the same design cues in Breitlings and Omegas across the range. Of course TAG Heuer is stretched across the value chain like no other ‘premium’ brand. Omega is gone, Breitling is shaping up to take TAG Heuers place and Tudor are also up and coming. What nexr?
