At lot more contemporary than that. The BB58 is obviously retro, like '60s or '70s Tudor/Rolex subs. The AR looks like a modern watch with a nod to the past. It has a bit of a dress watch feel, similar to the 2000. Not a chunk of a dive watch like the 43mm
I was thinking more vintage than that but sure maybe it does remind us of the 2000 series, I will need to go back to the photos again, have not looked at the new 40 mm for a while
Not just a smaller current model, with no shiny bezel and cyclops? Smaller size and if the sword hands are kept, will still be intriguing
There will be 40mm, steel bezel, without date, Quartz. Polished central link And 40mm, steel bezel, with date, Calibre 5. Polished central link
Thanks @VirgileF I knew 2 versions were due. Rumours I heard were no cyclops on the cal5 version (I dont care for quartz - my vintage Arnie does that job). Be interesting to see the images as the Aquaracer is one that follows it's own path (well similar to the Seamaster this time)
I now currently concur on the 2000s vibes. For me they’ve missed the boat on what I probably wanted to see. Oh well, least it’s made my mind up on the next incoming.
After a quick window shop at my local AD (whilst picking up parcels in my lunch hour) thought I'd browse to see what they had. New Aquaracers still look great IMHO compared to Omega (man I hate the Reeces Pieces) and yes more modern than the BB range. The 43mm I know will be too large for me, but I did spot the black dial 36mm (ladies) version which actually looks very appealing. Only difference I can see is the (obvs case size) dial waves instead of teak pattern (unlike the blue dial version with diamonds). At some point will go and physically handle them and others.
For me I would say the flaws are the movement, the size and the cyclops. But I'll stick to my mindset of thinking that TH is the Alfa Romeo of the watch world, logically speaking it isn't the 'best' and it will have flaws and issues. But it makes my heart sing.
I'd agree. The Cal 5 issues aren't nearly as annoying as your average Alfa's monthly CEL meltdown though! Overall, I enjoy it, despite the flaws (the movement and the cyclops yes; the size really isn't that bad). I'm glad I bought it, though if I did it over again I may have waited for them to be discounted. I don't feel bad about buying at MSRP though I agree on that, but wouldn't consider it a flaw of the 844 They're really not as bad as you might think. For the most part they appear circular, and then it's only when you look closer they reveal themselves to be octagonal. It turns out to be more of an easter-egg style detail rather than a design hallmark.
