Monaco has basically gone up £2500 since about 2017.

 

Having owned - and sold - the CAW211P Monaco, I can safely say that it’s a killer watch but there’s no way in hell it’s worth anywhere close to £6,800.

A true recreation of the original 1133B - round pushers, wider case shape, true C11 movement etc - would be a different proposition at £7k, and a proper challenger to something like the Zenith Chronomaster Revival, for instance. But £6.8k for a modular Sellita? No thanks, bro.

Used examples of the CAW211P seem to have remained flat at circa £4.2k, which is a fair price IMO. In hindsight, I think the best value Monaco is probably a good condition Calibre 12 with box and papers for around £3k - same movement (almost) as the C11, thinner than the H02 and an overall great looking watch. Having ‘TAG’ on the dial doesn’t bother me, nor does the right handed crown…am I tempted? Yes.

 

Yeah it does seem crazy considering the used prices that are out there...

 

I don't even get the impression that there are a lot of fakes to worry about...

 

Prices are berserk, but then so are costs I guess. The popularity increase doesn’t help either as many are still buying regardless of the increases.

It’s certainly making me a lot more selective though. Where I may have already bought my third watch on previous pricing, I am certainly a lot more pickier now.

 

I guess the thing is, luxury watches are not like other products. If they put the Monaco up people go 'Waaaah, it's too expensive...'

But they don't buy a Monaco because it's cheap. They buy it because it's a Monaco and because of all the history. Sure the price will put some off, but if you can afford £6100 you can probably afford £6700. It's just a case of do you want to?

Plus people here have said in the past that they have a watch budget, not a quota. People don't necessarily buy 3 watches a year, they maybe set themselves a budget, in which case maybe you can only buy 3 watches instead of 4. In the end TAG are basically getting similar money but giving you less for it.

Ultimately the only thing which will bring the price down is if people stop buying them.

 

Or TAG will push prices up to safeguard profits if sales fall

 

I thought the price was going up 4%? 6100 + 4% would be 6350

 

WTF!!! This is just insane. But I'm guessing that with the new C11 would have been priced similarly anyways, so it was better to close the proce gap between the 211P and the new C11 to give the impression of price similarity

 

I wouldn’t be surprised if they flipped the Heuer 02 movement, but scrapped the Heuer logo on the dial!

From my understanding, they have issues doing that, but presume that would make sense going forward if they could, Would be thick mind you and look very slab sided

Picked up my Cal 11 Monaco a few weeks ago. That dial is amazing. Can’t stop wearing it!
