What is the latest status of your Speedy vs Monaco dilemma McBeardy? Have any other contenders entered the fray?
Still pretty much those forerunners. Although the recent price increase in the Speedy has pushed this slightly further away (& the possibility of less discount). The Speedy seems a bit more 'heirloom' & classic/ versatile.
However the Monaco (as much as my other half hates it) just kinda sings to me, the style, looks, slightly odd, blue, bi-complex. Just hoping the Monaco doesnt have another increase before I order, also like to buy new, but RRP is crazy for the movement, would like to get at least 10% off RRP. (I'm dealing with Goldsmiths where I bought my BB58, my other half Tudor & will pick up my dad either a Seiko or Doxa from them, hoping this gives some discount my way).
Only other 2 watches that have slightly swayed me, Cartier Santos de Cartier in the 35mm size, but lack of lume on the hands ruins it, if I could retro fit the hands from the larger blue face model - maybe.
When I tried the Rolex Explorer 36mm on, I was blown away, but I'm not playing the AD games.
If I can pick up an Oris 65 (og big numeral version) or Aquaracer WAN2110 cheap enough, then they could also be bought, wouldn't mind a cheap beater to give the BB58 some rest.
Unless Oris release a blue dial calibre 400 I like, or Tudor come out with something unexpected then they could make the list. But as it stands 80% Monaco, 20% Speedy.
Which ever one I get, the other will be my 40th (all going well). I'd love the Monaco to get the 'Calibre 11' but I do prefer the square case rather than rectangle, and current pushers look more pleasing to my eye than the round pushers.
I did forget the Grey Man Carrera has caught my eye, whilst not enough to displace the Monaco or Speedy, enough that it could come in later next year (if finances work out well). Some say mall watch/ run of the mill. I think it's a safe classic design that can be dressed up and not cost a fortune a la DateJust.
