Wrong box?

Hello!!!

First of all, Happy New Year!!!!

My name is Juan, I'm from Spain but I live in Russia.

Time ago I had a Monaco with plexi and sold it, always regret that decision.

Two days ago I was checking some forums to buy a new watch and found out a Tag Heuer Monaco new, and the price is really, really good. Seller seems to be a nice person but there is something strange... the box.

Watch looks geninune I think, but I don't know why this box... Watch have the warranty card with the shop name but without any reference, date or anything. I've checked and the seller is an official retailer from New York. Only stamped with the retailer name and info, but no info about buyer or watch.

The box should be like this I think.

I will appreciate if you can help me 馃槈

Cheers

Juan

I think you got most of what you were looking for already?
http://forums.watchuseek.com/f25/wrong-box-3896434.html

What else do you need to know?

Well, I wanted to start a thread in a new forum, get new opinions or even the same ones, get to know new people, ... I don't see anything bad on doing this.

In the other forum you told me that maybe is a mistake from the seller, other person is telling me that maybe is cause the watch is from a grey market seller. No one told me 100% if they have the same box, if it's maybe some part of the production that went out with this box, ... Since this is a dedicated forum to the brand with more than 1200 people, I thought I may get a more accurate answer here and maybe even found someone with the same problem

People that is in this forum maybe is not in the other one and viceversa. Why I can't ask the same question in two different forums?

Is like if you go to a second doctor for a second opinion. Will the second doctor tell you that you've already been in their colleague hospital? Maybe they see the problem from another point of view but both have the same resolution for the problem. It's fine, sometimes you need to hear something twice from two different sources.

Best regards

Juan

The watch should have come with the special McQueen box, leaflet and manual in your last pic. This box presentation is actually pretty expensive and definitely part of the package. I wouldn't be happy if the watch didn't come with it.

Thank you very much for your message.

I've contacted the seller and he confirmed that he have no the special box. All he have is what you can see in the first photo. The manual is there, only missing the special box and the McQueen book.

Since the price is good and I think I will never sell the watch, I think I'll buy it anyway. Maybe later I can find a box somewhere. I still have some days till I decide if finally I'll buy it or not.

Regards

Hello friend, i dont know how much of a good price you get for that. But if you ask me, personally i wouldnt buy it if i didnt get the original box. Not saying that it will lose its resale value or anything. But i have OCD thats gonna kill me in the long run if everything is not in its original

Just my opinion

Cheers

Hola amigo. Price is really good, nearly 50% off the retailer price. So, I think is quite good to say no.

I always keep all the boxes, documents and even invoices of my watches. But I know some people put the box up for sale as soon as the get the watch. Maybe I can find the box someday... hehe.

The idea is to buy it and keep it. Usually when I buy a watch for second time, is a keeper. It happened to me with different watches in my collection with one exception, bought a second OMEGA Speedmaster and sold it.

Have a good day!

I wasn't having a go at you... Just asking what else you wanted to know? The reality is that you will never know for sure the reason why it doesn't come with the original box unless you speak to the original buyer or dealer. There could be several possible reasons.

The watch looks genuine, though. I would want the box if I were buying, but 50% would certainly be hard to say 'no' to.

Thank tou for your message.

Sorry that I misunderstood your first message.

I just wanted to know if maybe not all of this Monaco Caliber 11 have the same box, I've seen this with other brands.

The seller have several Tag Heuer for sell, all of them from an official retailer in US. Maybe he got all the watches and got the boxes separately. X watches so they sent X boxes with X warranty cards. I think it was like that... that will explain why the warranty card a are just stamped with the details of the retailer. Also, if you take a closer look the book isn't for caliber 11, but for caliber 16. I've asked the seller about it. I hope that will be a mistake and that he have the caliber 11 book somewhere.

He is now on holidays, so he is not all the time online. I planned to meet him in two weeks to close the deal face to face, but if there is not the original box, no Steve book and not caliber book... it's getting harder to say yes. Sure, price is quite good as I said, 2900$ for a new watch with plastics, but still thinking.

$2900 would raise serious question marks about the seller for me. You say it's an authorized dealer? Unless of course they know that it doesn't come with the right box/presentation pack and have priced accordingly? Even then, it's unlikely an AD would discount a new watch this heavily just because of the wrong box. For that price, I would buy it myself right now, and I'm not even in the market for one. I'm not saying there's definitely something dodgy about this deal - however, I would certainly do a bit of homework on the seller first and make sure any transaction is protected - especially as the watch is in New York and you're in Russia!

I will send you a private message and explain to you with more details.

Seller is legit, that's for sure. He sells only Tag Heuer. Watch is in Russia, but was bought in New York.

OK fair enough, I misunderstood your initial message about where the watch was based. I don't know anything about the Russian market.

Out of curiousity. Why you bought second Omega speedmaster and sold it ? Why is speedmaster is not a keeper for you ?

I am asking only because i always have speedmaster in my list but havent pull the trigger yet

Also, if i am not mistaken i heard somewhere to be very careful with russia grey market dealer (no offence intended, just something i caught over surfing here and there). So i would advice to be very careful. (Anyway no need to send the private message to my inbox as well, i am sure you have good judgement of what is happening)

Cheers friend

Hola!

I've bought first the professional Speedmaster with plexiglass. Lovely watch but sold it. Why? There is two reasons for me. The first one is cause the chronograph runs not smooth... the hand jumps a little sometimes. The second reason cause (sorry for that, I don't want to open a discussion) I don't think that watch have been on the moon.

The second Speedmaster I've bought was with moonphase, also so pretty an awsome watch, but sold it after sometime for the same reasons. Hehehe.

Maybe I will buy it again since I love the design, but maybe I will sell it again.

The good thing about the Speedmaster is that you can sell it easily if you are tired of it.

As for the sellers in Russia, yes, you have to be careful. Not only in Russia, all over the world. I'm living in Russia for 5 years already and prior that in China, I collect watches for many years already and usually (crossing fingers) never had a problem. Only once someone tried to cheat me with a DeepSea, was a guy from Europe.

Don't worry, I will not send you a private message, hehehehehe.

Have a good one

Regards

Juan

Ah, the whole watch on the moon thing. Funny enough its never been the appeal that got me. Even one of my friend refuse to buy omega only because they advertisement the watch on the moon and he refuse to believe it.

Moonphase speedmaster chronograph...one of my bucketlist...

Cheers

Resurrecting this old thread, as I happened to see this Monaco CAW211P on instagram (pictured below). I'm wondering if it's in the wrong box or if TH has switched boxes again. Because I know that the new Monaco H02 also comes in this type of box and that TH has switched boxes before.

I believe TH switched from the original Steve McQueen box, shown above in this thread, to the "Heuer" only branded type of box sometime around the latter part of 2017 or in 2018 (pictured below). That's why I'm wondering if TH has made yet another switch for 2020 or if the above is just in the wrong box.
