Why is the Calibre 18 Link so expensive?

I just saw a Link Calibre 18 on offer in a jewellers window, and was more than a little surprised to see them offering it at £2700 down from £4300. I checked the TAG website and this watch is indeed £4450. How come? What possible justification could there be for this watch costing more than an in-house Carrera Heuer 01 skeleton dial?

If I'd seen that in the outlet I would have thought they were trying to pull a fast one to be honest.

It's pretty much in line with other Calibre 17/18 models?

By the way, what happened to the Carrera Calibre 18? My AD said it was no longer being sold. However, it's still on TAG Heuer's website.
There are a few Telemeters left on certain countries, but my understanding is that it is no longer being made. The remaining cases were used for the Skipper.

Where did you get that info? What do you think is my best course of action for buying the Carrera Calibre 18 at this point?

I am gonna be biased here and say "it is in everyone best interest to buy telemeter as it is such a beautiful watch". 😁 oh btw calibre18 is one of the most accurate time keeping i have in my collection. ( I calculate by +/- per day )

Forgive my ignorance, but what is so great about the Calibre 18 versus say the Calibre 16 that makes it worth twice the money?
