When is a Monaco a ‘McQueen’ and when not?

If you think the poster of SMQ with a TH Monaco Calibre 12 is ODD, check this video 😲 TAG Heuer even made a short movie clip were Lewis Hamilton (McLaren days) being inserted into the LeMans movie talking with SMQ’s Michael DeLaney! 😲 I know it’s just for the purpose of “hype & buzz” but TBH I really don’t mind these marketing “gimmick”, sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Call it “artistic freedom” or whatever. I’d still buy myself a TAG Heuer Monaco 😉


(PS: Lewis Hamilton is on the verge of equalling and beating Schumacher’s 91 GP record, making him arguably THE G.O.A.T)

These are old ads, I remember seeing them in airports and boutique windows. The Mcqueen Heuer connection originated in a product placement watch. No real Heuer passion there. So why not place the watch on display on his wrist? It’s all Hollywood. He was a Rolex and Hanhart guy. Mcqueen’s family made a good buck. Chad wears a Monaco. All good.

It would be interesting to know exactly when that Monaco advert was published, since it might be the case that there was no blue Monaco available at the time, maybe?

But let us not forget, these things are where the haters draw their arguments to stain the brand and place TAG Heuer as a “fashion/marketing” brand rather than a true Swiss watchmaker. But I still don’t mind them. As they say “haters are gonna hate.” I’m still 101% TAG Heuer. Still and will always be passionate about Heuer/TAG Heuer 👍👍 Amen 😎

The blue dial calibre 17 probably came slightly later. This is the first generation TH Monaco. The black ad is probably older. I suppose Mcqueen was the face of the whole new Monaco range, not solely the blue dialed version.

Will there always be Calibre 11 Monaco in the catalog forever ? now with the ever growing range of H02 ?

Nope the name calibre 11 is a bit of false advertising, it is just a sellita with dd chrono module sold for a shockingly high price. Good margins for Tag 🙄😁 which is why my guess is that the non in house movements will stay, it is just too damn good money for them to keep shipping cal 11, 5 etc for high prices.

Plus they've made such a big deal out of the whole left hand crown thing that unless they are willing to make their own left hand movement then they will be hoist by their own petard.
