What's going on with the 6000 Series?

So again I just got an email from TAG Heuer about F1 and the 6000 Series that Senna wore. This is not something TAG do, they only promote things they can sell. So why are they doing this? Is there a 6000 reissue coming out? I find that very hard to believe, but there's gotta be something going on here.

I'm hoping it's not about the 6000 series, but more about Senna.

It may also just be a "no news" email.

Mmmm, could be I suppose. But what are they 'selling' here?

A new solid gold version on solid gold bracelet would be cool. I want Verstappen to wear that on the podium every race.

It's more about ensuring you're still engaged - if they didn't send emails out at all except just prior to a release, people's interest might wane enough that they dismiss it. Their marketing team just calculates the time to maintain/pique interest.

Plus: you're talking about it.

I think it has more to do with TAG's return to F1. It says "Unveiled the same year as the Formula 1 debut, the TAG Heuer 6000...". This is referring to TAG Heuer's debut as Formula 1 timekeeper, because the 6000 was released in 1992, same year TAG became F1 timekeeper for the first time.

Also, it appears to be a regional email. I didn't receive it; the last TH email I got was about Valentines Day.

I got the email also.
I agree with Michael its with regard to the upcoming F1 season.
The 38mm F1s should be in boutiques in 2 weeks and revealed just prior to the Melbourne GP

Not long after I first replied to this thread, the email showed up. So, I guess it's a global mailing after all. Seems TH must time the release of their emails by region, weird.

Anyway, now seeing the full context, the connection is definitely the year 1992. The year TAG first became the official F1 timekeeper and released the 6000. Famously associated with Senna.

Senna first wore his 6000 ref. WH5151 at the 1992 Belgian GP, he would wear this watch for the majority of the rest of his career. These photos are from Spa '92, you can tell because it was the last year McLaren used Honda power before switching to Ford in '93.

(P.S. His strap ain't blue.)

I wonder how often he wore this 6000? Was a privilege to hold and view it in Toronto many years ago when it was for sale!

He wore that reference (WH5151) a lot. From the pictures I've looked at, Senna first started wearing it at the Belgian GP in August 1992, continued to wear it for the majority of the '93 season, and during the '94 season. But I think he had more than one. I've seen him wearing it with both a black strap as in pictured above and a brown strap like these pictures.

TAG Heuer has recently been showing this reference on a blue strap on social media, implying Senna wore it this way at Williams. But during his '94 season with Williams, it looks like a black strap to me. Or it might've been a very dark navy blue, but certainly not the shade of blue shown on TAG's pic (see 2nd post above).

When not racing in 1994, Senna was often wearing a custom 6000 with a red S at 9 o'clock and metal bracelet. As mentioned in the Ayrton Senna thread.

After replying, I looked more closely at the 6000s that Senna has worn, and I take back what I said above. While he may have worn the Automatic ref WH5151, I'm not so sure that he wore it a lot. In most of pictures that I've seen at F1 GPs, Senna is actually wearing the Quartz model WH1151. Which would make sense, since a quartz watch is better suited for the harsh vibrations of a F1 car.

See my post in the Ayrton Senna thread for more details here.
