What was your first Heuer?

What was your first Heuer watch and what made you choose it?

This is my first: a Carrera 1553N bought from eBay in about 2005


The reason I bought this watch was that I fell in love with this photo taken by Arno Haslinger (hosted at OTD)

It wasn't so much the case that I liked, but more the brilliant blue on the dial and the contrast with the bright orange. And there was the funky Silver line which I hadn't seen before.

As I've written elsewhere, it's still to this day the only vintage Carrera that I've owned!

What was your first, and what inspired you to take the jump?

My first Heuer was the 980.004 quartz diver (blank chapter ring). It was my entry to vintage Heuer and, at the time, the only neo-vintage Heuer I could afford. Sadly, it's no longer in my collection but has moved on to a happy home.

Prior to buying it, I couldn't understand why anyone would collect "old" watches.
However, six months earlier I bought this TAG Heuer Autavia re-edition...

...and I guess this watch caused me to form a soft spot for the original Autavia. Now, most of my small collection is comprised of vintage Heuer watches.

Sounds like we went through the same path- I started out with the re-editions before "discovering" vintage 😉
