What chance a 50th Anniversary Monaco?

    Hi all,

I was contemplating a Monaco 40th anniversary version rather than the TH version. Then I thought that maybe TH might make a 50th anniversary edition for 2019. This would also coincide with my 50th birthday and would act as a gift to myself.

I know we're a few years out, but what does everyone think. Surely if you release a 40th anniversary version you'd release a 50th anniversary version? I'm taking the chance to wait as I reckon TH would be inclined to mark the date.

George, while I doubt they're planning that far ahead yet, I would have thought that (assuming the Monaco remains in the range), it's a 100% certainty!

Question is: can you wait that long

I am also counting on this, but I couldn't wait, so I was determined to find myself a new 40th Anniversary no matter what, and luckily I did!

Hmmm. Will be a tough one but I might have no choice but to wait. Given I just bought the titanium 1887, by the time I'm ready with funds for my next, it'll almost be 2017, so I figure what's another two years?

Hubert, I'm tipping yours is the black one in the share photos section?

Nope; it's the 40th Anniversary. There is a post about it from last year whet I got it. Here it is in case you care to check it out:

The black one you are referring to that I posted on the other thread, was the one I was missing from the CAW211 series. Here's a picture showing all four.

Yes you're right Hubert. I remember that post now. Thanks for reminding me, good to see it again. Will be hard to hold out another four years but I think it will be worth it. The main thing will be lining up with my 50th at the same time so will be a good nostalgic piece.

Thank you George. This Monaco is probably the most iconic model in the brand's recent 50 year history. Like you and David, I am counting on the 50th Anniversary to be reissued, as it would allow me to wear my 40th, without being overly concerned of causing any damage to this treasured collectible.

    Finally, I was
especially glad to read that the 50th will become a very special milestone memento to you, if it's reissued in four years. And now that you mentioned this idea, I will apply that same logic to my 40th, so that it can serve the same purpose during my own matching celebration later this year. Cheers!

Hubert, that looks fantastic- you may have already mentioned this, but is that a watch winder?

My question what would be the more significant, celebratory event: Monaco watch or Calibre 11/Chronomatic.

Of course, a watch could be celebrating both.
    It'd be a fitting year for a new(ish) movement wouldn't it?

I remember a couple of years ago when Helmut Sinn took over Guinand and released 100 watches with NOS Calibre 12 movements, yes, original 1970s Chronomatic Heuer movements.

Wouldn't it be cool if TAG Heuer could find another 100 movements in a crate somewhere and fit these to a 50th anniversary Monaco?

That would certainly make it a genuine re-edition; no holds barred.

The other question would be, now that they have manufacturing capabilities, what's stopping them from producing a small run?

I wonder who owns the rights to the movement? Not sure if it's TAG Heuer. Reckon it would be cheaper to go onto eBay and spend $200k buying 100 broken down Autavias, add the usable parts to the vintage parts bin for re-sale and then refurb the Calibre.

I've been looking at watch winders recently and the best ones to my eye are the TH ones. They're a bit pricey at $1500 AUD for a pair. But they sure look great with red stitching and perforations.

I believe they're based on the ones below. Plenty of generic options to be had.

Yes, this is the company that makes them for TH.

Interesting, why do you say that? I don't know enough to disagree, but the Monaco has always been my least favourite model, I never realised it was particularly signficant.
