It surprises me that people don't moan about 39mm Monacos.... having tried them on they are MASSIVE. Why is that?
It's because the vintage originals wear large too. It's part of the "in your face" personality of the Monaco.

Thats not really true, Michael complains all the time about the size of the Monaco
The 39mm size I don't mind so much, but I do wish it was thinner.

curious to know whether the patriotic colours play a part for you?

Not at all - I actually thought it was silly and dumb when it first came out, LOL. But then a buddy found he liked it more than his Shadow and I had to find out for myself if it's really that great in person.

It is 😁

They're also showing up on the secondary these days, so unless you're bent on buying new it's not as hard to get as you might think. One showed up on Reddit just last week I think

Had a look at C24, prices seem to be under retail, but shipping to Europe won't make it economical.

Wow, this thread started 14 hours ago and grew already infinitely.
I am still curious about what's to come from TAG and Heuer. Even if there are some questionnable designs it surely never gets boring like some other brands only repeating. On the other hand the purists are not forgotten and get a classic design from time to time.

I expect Anault will read this thread at some point and close up shop.

Further ceramic options that come to mind are the ceramic options in the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms lineup, or the IWC Pilot's Watch Top Gun lineup which is mostly ceramic, and not just in black.

All options are also in the requisitely MANLY 43mm+ size range 😉

But both look 'old' despite the black and ceramic. Especially the Blancpain.

Actually I can think of a watch I've tried that's semi affordable that looks modern that isn't a TAG or a Hublot.

Well this has always been a large part of the TH appeal for me. I don't want a new bracelet every six years... okay you can't accuse Omega of just repeating the same thing, or certainly not as bad as Rolex... Rolex stubborn refusal to ever make anything different seems only to serve them as a strength, which I get - if you're only interested in them as investments. But as an 'enthusiast' how can anyone be immersed in Rolex. Unless you have a thing for red text and green bezels.

Look no further than TAG's LVMH stablemate. Zenith isn't just classic-looking El Primeros.

Jeesus but that is FUGLY. Compare with this...

This Carrera was about £6500, how much is that Zenith?

Or Rado who built their entire brand on ceramic watches and has recently regained some serious mojo with the Captain Cook reissue + line expansion. This one is 43mm.

Well at least it looks better than the normal version, BUT.... who are we kidding, this is a skeletonised Chanel J12.

I tried one on once.
Took off the G Shock I was wearing, was massively disappointed at how small the Monaco seemed.

Didn't buy. didn't have the funds tbf

Great discussion here…

I hear some of this same type of discussion across many forums.

Seiko forums complaining of prices moving up but features being dropped, poor qc, when will they bring the Pogue back.

Omega forum complaints about helium escape valves, chunky cases, when will they reissue og seamaster with sword hands, why sooo many special editions.

Rolex forums why did they go bigger on the sub, when will they make a coke gmt, why no real update on Explorer 2, why cant I get a watch, your watch ain’t shit if it doesn’t go up in value.

Us watch folks are not the main market for watch companies, they sell what sells and sometimes throw us a nostalgic bone. I am happy and am patient when they do. When we realise this we will be much happier. If we like how they did it back in the day, buy vintage. If you want a new vintage style watch see Doxa, Nivada Grenchen, Tourneq Rayville, Aquastar and the like that are in that nostalgia market.

I like Tag Heuer for the sheer variety and value the brand offers through its history and current offerings. I don’t like everything but I do like a lot of different watches over their history and will weigh my options when picking new or vintage. I look forward to seeing where they take the brand and what comes next. My two cents.

People will be happy and content. Alot will not be happy and not be content 😁 It’s the people who value, cherish and are thankful to what they have, simply becomes more at peace with themselves 😀

Your watch, what you wear or what you have is not important to me. It’s your values and your respect will identify who you are than any watch you can afford 👍

And that is where I am at. I so enjoy the vintage designs and looks that I realized it's the only thing that truly makes me happy. So why bother wrestling with my complaints about the various modern iterations? I so get that the modern movements, materials and accuracy are superior, I have a few. But the song and dance of the original "oldies" just keep me pleased to no end.
And that's just my two cents too

How does Rolex achieve 24.9% market share when they don't have any watches for sale at the ADs?
They make millions of watches a year but a billion people want them. If you’re a big spender you’ll get any model you like. The rest of us are lucky to get a DJ within a year.
They could easily have a 50% market share but it would harm them in the long run. 25% is probably their sweet spot. Imagine the profit they make as this is a achieved with only a handful of watches.
They increased their prices recently. A standard sub is now 8500 euro iso 7900. A cermit is now 10.100, used to be 8.400 I believe.

I was joking really - I know they make a lot of watches and they fly out of the door, so definitely they are ending up on some people's wrists. It seems to be the steel models that are so in demand, and they're probably selling more expensive and less desirable pieces off the back of this demand too.

Oh certainly. You can’t buy a steel Daytona unless you also buy a 30k+ gold day date or something. Unless you are Max Verstappen of course.

Wow, have a few hours off and come back to War and Peace.

Well you can blame Ngo516 for that. He chucked a grenade and disappeared.

I wanted to reply to a post shortly after my own but that's lost in the mists of time now....
Seems like a hot topic. 🍿

I didn't say that nor did I mean to imply it. I meant that TAG offers no continuity of design and so there's nowhere to go when your tastes have changed and you come back to TAG after a few years looking for a nice evolution of your watch and find an Autavia Flyback instead.

Fortunately they've started to do this with the Aquaracer and so from a design standpoint I think it's more of a success. I hope they start doing this with other model lines.

But everybody hates the new Aquaracer.... 😒
