Ladies and Gentlemen,

Requesting advice for a beginner collector, are there recommendations and insight for the purchase of a proper watch case. I have, what I hope, is a quality winder but am in need of a watch case for storage and use as the collection grows.

I actively wear my watches, even the vintage ones, but I respect the preservation and historical meaning of our collections. So, is there a case that is well respected for these qualities?

Hi Michael, similar to David, I would look at a hard case like these. I have recently filled a case I had lying around for a while. Just waiting for lockdown to finish to get some black inserts but you get the idea. I added a decal on the outside for that extra cool look.
One suggestion I would make though is to look around.
The Pelican cases are great but they are priced at the top of the spectrum. There are plenty of clones at a fraction of the price. Mine is a Treka and I see them on eBay at a reasonable price. If quality is important then Pelican might be for you, as I believe they may have a lifetime warranty. Make sure you show us what you get

 

Do you just take a Stanley knife to the foam to create the inserts you want?

 

as David said above. It’s “Pluckable” foam. Just pops out as it’s already been precut/sliced into about 5mm wide slices vertically and horizontally.

 

Thanks. I wasn't quite sure what the term 'pluckable' meant. 5mm slices makes it very versatile.

If you’re just wanting something for storage at home, rather than transportable, you can always commission a piece from a local cabinetmaker in walnut or flame maple, or other attractive wood. The Pelican cases are very practical, but they really look utilitarian.

Great thanks for the sage and kind advice! Just getting into collecting I wanted to start out right to fit into the safe and also ensure good protection. I didn’t think of the pelican case but that is a great idea.

Was also considering a Hawk and Gable or a Mantello (thoughts?) but I may go with the armored for the drop protection...and the sticker potential is also great!

Hoping its okay to bring this thread back up..

I am looking at storage for my watches, currently a drawer + watch winder isn't enough. I am looking to buy a single watch leather pouch/roll so I can take one travelling and keep it safe. I will get a peli-case eventually but with a huge collection of 2 watches its not worth it yet, nor is it helpful for travelling.

Does anyone have a recommendation? Wouldn't mind it also being from a UK company to go with where I got the watches from but not picky.

I also looked for a travel watch case and stumbled upon this on Amazon, The Watchpod, I bought a two-watch model initially and was so impressed I bought a second one.

Lightweight, fairly priced, and protective. I threw a microfiber over the watches to be double sure and am very happy.
