Hello,

Enjoy to share with you 2 photos of a classical ref.918 dec.stopwatch from my collection. That's a decimal minute flyback stopwatch mainly used in Industry. That's a S.A.V.I.C version.
I put more information on my website

A recent acquisition....

Nice watch I like the yellow watch handles it makes a nice contrast with the black case.
By the way the color is similar to the comic background 😀 😀 😀

I wore this Autavia 741603 GMT in the late 1970s when I was flying around Game Parks in Africa. At takeoff, I would start the sweep hour hands, then stop them at touchdown. Then over a series of flight legs I would have a running total time in the air, for computing fuel burn in the C-402. Still wear this watch, and it has followed me through my Aviation Career.

I now need a new glass crystal and new bezel (if available) to restore my watch. Any leads to a watchmaker in US or Canada to do this work? Watch, and sweep hands all work, but watch gains a few minutes a day.
The Heuer 12 minute IFR timer probably saved my life when I had to shoot the approach into Nairobi Wilson airport, one night, with partial instrument failure.

Great forum, for those who collect all things Heuer..

Very nice watch and a great story! I’m curious, why would you replace the crystal and bezel? This watch looks fantastic the way it is. The scuffs and dents tell a story, in this case your story. Detailing the crystal can do wonders.
If you send it to a watchmaker to have the movement serviced, make sure he doesn’t do anything else like replacing parts or polishing the case. They guys will often do that even without being asked.

Thanks. You may be right, don't touch it, but it needs to be serviced. I would never have the case polished. But crystal is badly scratched at bottom. Bezel has faded a bit too.

Beautiful watch, and awesome story! I personally think that your watch has earned its patina, and shouldn't have any cosmetic work done. That bezel looks exquisite to me.

You may be able to have the crystal polished to remove scratches, rather than have it completely replaced - an experienced watchmaker will be able to advise you on that. Notable Heuer experts in the US are Chronodeco or ABC Watchwerks, give them a Google and an email and go on from there. Good luck, and please stick around! 👍

"Beautiful watch, and awesome story!"
Thanks, I have lots of stories from flying in Africa 😀. Besides the flying I did from Mombasa, and Malindi, into the Kenya Game Parks, I also flew DC-3s a bit from Nairobi into the Sudan..I had many friends with the US Peace Corps, I would ferry around when I had empty seats.
I was living right on the Indian Ocean much of the time over there, with a private sand beach in front of the home I shared with a German Pilot. 3 house servants.. When I went back to NA, for my Airline interview, with 6 senior Captains, I had many pictures, and my East African License, etc to show them.
At the end of the interview, on a cold, rainy day ,one of them asked me, "How do I get a job over there? " another one said, "Why are you here?"
