Sorry to hear that your uncle passed away, but I think it's a great idea to buy a watch to remember him by. One thing you haven't mentioned is budget, the Autavia above is about £4000 - it would be helpful to give us an idea of what you have available money wise.

Somewhere IRI £3 to £6K, depending on final outcome of probate process.

Oh yes I see what you mean about the '80s Silverstone. Didn't know about that one, and never seen one - you might find one very difficult to find.

Be very careful with dealers - there are a lot of unscrupulous dealers out there, and even the big names don't always sell good wares especially when it comes to Heuer. Lots of incorrect parts etc

Bob, if it helps I can tell you privately who I know to be dodgy in the UK and who I have dealt with and found to be good,
with a few EU and USA notes too.

I have always taken the view that, as with cars, it is easier to guide someone to finding a good one than to help sort out a bad one. Can't do quite the same with watches but turning up to examine a car for sale while driving the same make with a trolley jack in the boot and the marque's badge on your workshop overalls weeds 'em out fast 😎

However surely the resource for buying tool watches is http://www.chronocentric.com/forums/chronotrader which is mainly private sales or semi-private. There are so many knowledgeable people monitoring it that incorrect parts, fakes and scams are called out very quickly. Unfortunately it means the best stuff goes fast too.
