I Have a Tag 1000 coral it's from around 1997 black case,Does anyone know what type of glass it would have? And if so,could I polish out the scratches on the face myself and what with?

The scratches aren't visible as it's not a clear photo, they aren't deep but quite messy

If I'm not misstaken the 1000 series all used "standard" mineral glass. If you want to change it you can probably just take it to most watchmakers and they'll do it for you. I advise against that you try to polish them out by yourself, that can end it many bad ways.

It's a nice watch you got over there! I've been thinking of buying myself a two-tone TH 1000 at some point. I guess we'll see what happens with that...🍿

Yeah that’s a lovely watch. I’ve got an 980.029 myself (Heuer branded) and recently had a new crystal fitted, and like yours had some small scratches, but new crystal makes it pop.

This is it on the wrist of the Tag Heuer marketing manager, as I “swapped” it tenporarily for the JH85 Autavia.

I sent my to Dave at benchdweller.uk in Nothern Ireland for service and crystal replacement, as no reliable watchmakers here in Dubai.

No website. Service was £50, crystal about £10 or so. Nothing dramatic.

If you want I can put you in contact with him if you message me your email address.

There's a guy on here who services 1000s, think he can fit a sapphire crystal which will be a lot tougher than mineral glass.
