Hi. New here. I have the TAG Heuer Calibre 5 Link Day Date Watch. 8 years ago it fell down and the crown went out. Iv'e fixed it and since , It was in my safe - not working almost all that time. . Lately I started to use it and it is working fine EXCEPT crown isn't fully secure sometimes. Took it to the lab. they say a mechanism need to fix and crown needs to replace. Is the lab correct ? Thanks.
If it is out of warranty they will generally want to service it when they fix the crown, it sucks but if you think about it you can see their point. If they fix the crown they have to give you a warranty and they can't really do that unless they are sure the watch is working properly.
I didn't explain myself properly. The watch fell down 8 years ago and I fix it in a lab 8 years ago. Everything was fine and fine now. Except sometimes the crown cant fully secure. The watch is working/moving fine without an issue My question regards why to fix the mechanism and again replace the crown ? $1000 to pay
My wife say why to pay if the watch working fine ? The crown isn’t turn inside sometimes but if I don’t touch it it’s ok
I had a similar experience with a 2000 Exclusive. The crown would unwind from the stem and fall off. I could only set the time 'backwards' - when I decided to get it fixed I had to have it serviced at the same time. It's just the way it is I'm afraid
Normally crowns will be replaced when watch is being serviced to maintain waterresistance so that is the only solution.
Whoever told you a service for a calibre 5 will cost this much, is either giving you false information or trying to trick you into paying way too much
Ok. It’s the certified service lab. How much approximately the cost of a crown and some mechanism parts ?
I would guess no more than $500 including the crown (which is changed as a part of the service). My 2000 went back to TAG Heuer in the UK and it was £300 albeit that was a quartz watch.
I had my crown repaired on my Classic 2000 back in 2016. I had just received my watch back from TAG Heuer Customer Service when the crown failed the next day! So back it went - but it only cost me $150 - $200 Cdn (going by memory) and another 4 - 6 weeks of waiting. I agree that $1000 (US?) is far too expensive for a crown repair. Something's amiss...
...and from your description @Rony your crown needs a service. If you cannot fully tighten the crown down, then the water resistance of your watch will be compromised. I guess it's not an issue if you don't get your watch wet. But it would bother me. Another tip - don't overtighten or put too much force/torque on your crowns. I find these are the most vulnerable part of the watch (I'm probably paranoid though).
