My red rally arrived. Not sure how I feel about it yet. My initial reaction is it's RED alright. 😜

hmm looks a bit to burgundy for me. Have you thought about a white rallye with red stitching?

It's red IRL, I guess there's a hint of burgundy or it might be just the way it looks on your screen. I've thought about a white rally or solid calfskin, either all white, off white, or with red accents, but don't know. I think for that look, I'll stick with my Omega "Japan" NATO for now.

The red rally that I got is from StrapsCo, pretty nice for $30, IMHO. But I got it to test the waters with something affordable before looking into pricier straps, such as these from the Strap Tailor.

However, I'm not convinced yet that I like it more on a strap than I do on its OEM bracelet. Except for the Team strap, but I plan on wearing that very sparingly, until I can source a spare to keep pristine.

On a separate note.
One detail that probably goes unnoticed is the red logo on the crown. I really like that touch, sometimes it's the little things that matter. 🥰

If you’re going red it’s got to be RED! Like that, when I looked at a Cayman it had to be yellow with matching interior trim, wife said no when she realised it was a hardtop.

That's so funny - my GF couldn't wait to be rid of the S2000. Not because it was a softtop but because it was so small and loud.

Now she knows what a really scary (acceleration-wise) car is like 😁

Glad you approve.

Speaking of Yellow Porsches, one of the most famous of Ikuzawa's personal cars is his 1969 911 S Targa. In 2009, Porsche Exclusive built him a custom 1 of 1 Carrera 997 Targa 4S to celebrate 40 years. This video shows both his old one and the new one.

I still have a Japanese car magazine that has an article about it. Which I bought during a business trip to Tokyo in 2010.

I dig the red strap. When you wan't to share stories about your watch, wear that strap. Really makes it pop! Mr. Wonderful would approve 👍

Not quite yellow and I think it was a ‘67 with the plastic window, but there was a really cool 911S Targa at the TAG x Porsche event recently

Some other fun facts:
In the '64 Japanese GP, Ikuzawa drove a Skyline and over took the leading Porsche 904 for the race lead. Although he eventually lost to the Porsche, that race is now known as the beginning of the Skyline's legend. The car everyone knows today as the Nissan GT-R.

Also, Ikuzawa was the first Japanese to become a works factory Porsche driver. His co-drivers at Watkins Glen in '68 were none other than Jo Siffert and Hans Herrmann.

I found this picture that shows Ikuzawa's pass on the leading Porsche. It illustrates how much of a David & Goliath moment this was for the grandfather of the Skyline GT-R, and Ikuzawa's role in creating the car's racing legend.

And a shot of Ikuzawa at Watkins Glen in '68, with another Heuer racing hero - Jochen Rindt. BTW, the two characters in the back suspiciously resemble Graham Hill and Jim Clark.

After a week of pondering & trying various strap options, I've come to the conclusion that Bamford knows what he's doing. I like the white Team strap and bracelet almost equally.

I prefer the Team strap because it's uniquely designed for the watch and gives a very clean sporty look.

However, for daily wear, it's hard to beat the bracelet. I never noticed before how nice the modern Carrera bracelets are. I first took notice on my wife's Barbie Carrera. On the 42mm, I particularly like how nicely integrated the endlinks are and the overall look. The only thing that sucks is there's zero micro adjustment.

I also do really like the red rally and NATO strap options. They're fun alternatives for when I get bored of wearing it on the bracelet.

Hence, as usually ends up being the case for me, I like the OEM straps the best.
1. Team Strap (which sadly will see little wrist time, until I have a spare)
2. Bracelet (very close 2nd, will surely get the most wrist time)
3. Red Rally & White/Red NATO (Tie - I'll wear both depending on my mood)

Two changes that I noticed from the prototype to production are:
1. Change from a leather velcro strap to a fabric velcro strap.

2. Change from red lettering on the rotor to white.

Part of my enthusiasm for this watch is that everything seems well thought out. No running seconds hand, no wrong colored date wheel, everything in perfect harmony.

Another reason it's quite special to me is I view this watch as a modern day equivalent of Heuer's tradition of gifting watches to racers like Ronnie Peterson and creating watches in tribute to racing greats like Niki Lauda (Monza) and Jacky Ickx (Easy Rider). Sure Max gets a new watch every year, but somehow that feels more commercial. This one feels more authentic, a love letter to a racer who's part of the golden age of motor racing.

Ikuzawa is also involved in the Nissan Skyline legend.

His rival at that time was Shikiba, who drove a Porsche 904. He started a company called Racing Mate and sold car supplies. At that time, Shikiba custom-ordered Heuer Monza with Racing Mate logo.
I found this video that highlights Ikuzawa (Skyline) vs. Shikiba (Porsche 904) with actual race footage.
A meaningful story, as I was contemplating a Nissan GT-R when it was announced at the 2007 Tokyo Motor show. But bought a 911 instead.

My TH Boutique told me they can't order the strap in the US, since it's Japan only. So next I'll check with the Japan Boutique to see if it's possible.
The TH Boutique that I bought it from in Japan has informed me that TAG Heuer has no plans to sell the Team strap separately. Seems the strap has just become as rare as the watch itself, limited to 100 pieces. 🙁

Since spares of the Team strap can't be ordered, I had this custom white leather strap made. It just arrived and I'm happy with this look. 😀

I caved and bought the ridiculously expensive shirt. But glad I did. How often does one get a chance to have official accessories for one's watch? 🙄

Looks fantastic, @Mspeedster. I enjoy your passion for this piece, and the new strap looks great, too.
Thank you @Jemagloh! It's always a pleasure sharing things on this forum.
I love all the stickers that came with the shirt, these little things make my day! 🥰

Mai Ikuzawa on the new watch. I like how she describes it as a true love & pure passion project! 🥰
