"LA PETITE AIGUILLE" WATCH OF THE YEAR

TAG Heuer’s in-house manufactured chronograph wins the “La Petite Aiguille” Best Watch of the Year Award at the 2010 Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Genève.

The Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Genève is the Swiss watch industry’s most prestigious award competition. The prize of “La Petite Aiguille” rewards the best watch of the year whose price is under 5,000 Swiss francs ($5,166USD). The victory marks the sixth time in 10 years that TAG Heuer has been singled out for its engineering and design prowess.

"This is great victory for TAG Heuer, and for our Honorary Chairman Jack Heuer," said Jean-Christophe Babin, TAG Heuer President and CEO. "Jack is the creative genius behind so many of our icons, among them the Monaco, the Silverstone and, of course the Tag Heuer Carrera. He designed the first Tag Heuer Carrera in 1964 and has overseen every new generation since. This new version celebrates that legacy. It’s a "Grand Classique" re-invented for TAG Heuer’s 150th Anniversary, faithful to the original in design and spirit, but with a radical new "engine" — the Calibre 1887 — which turns it into a 3rd Millennium chronograph in terms of size, quality, performance and accuracy."

The TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 chronograph was developed, and is currently produced and assembled in TAG Heuer’s state-of-the-art facility in Switzerland.

Its star component is the Calibre 1887. A new contemporary mechanical chronograph movement, by TAG Heuer. Not different but more efficient. A new classic in the Tag Heuer Carrera tradition.

"The TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 Chronograph epitomizes TAG Heuer’s pre-eminence in mechanical movement and case manufacturing," said Jack Heuer. "We spent 3 years engineering and developing the movement in a "all-under-one-roof" workshop equipped with avant-garde Swiss machines and robots capable of stamping, milling and finishing with to-the-micron precision. This state-of-the-art engineering allows for the production of a true "Manufacture" movement at a very competitive cost — a perfect embodiment of TAG Heuer’s famous "fair cost/fair price" philosophy."

Geneva, Switzerland – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine

The Mikrogirder by TAG Heuer has won the “Aiguille d’Or” at the 12th Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG), recognizing the watch as the finest timepiece of the year. The jury was composed of international watch industry professionals, with the prize-giving ceremony held in the Grand Théâtre de Genève November 15th.

The event was attended by Federal Councillor Alain Berset, representatives of the Geneva authorities and influential figures in the watch industry. Organised in a link-up with New York and broadcast live with English interpreting, especially via the Euronews.org website, the event offers an annual salute to the finest in worldwide watch production.

Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO TAG Heuer, said: “Our chronograph is the ultimate in high-precision timing; it consigns quartz to historical oblivion”

Created in 2001 and overseen since 2011 by a Foundation, the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix contributes to the international renown and influence of the watch industry and of its values: innovation, perpetuating expertise across generations and a constant quest for excellence. These shared core values are also upheld by the main partner of the GPHG Foundation, the Banque Privée Edmond de Rothschild. Since 2011, the latter annually rewards the best young student at the Geneva Watchmaking School by granting a scholarship.

Once again this year, the public was also able to make its choice among the 70 watches pre-selected by the jury. The Public Prize is awarded by visitors to the Geneva exhibition and by internet visitors who voted for their favorite watch on the www.gphg.org or www.worldtempus.com websites.

All the prize-winning and nominated watches from this 12th edition of the GHPG will be on show at the Swiss Embassy in Moscow from November 28th to December 1st. This year, the watches pre-selected by the jury were also exhibited in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Geneva, prior to the prize-giving ceremony.

GPHG: The reissue of the famous Heuer Monza receive the Revival Watch Prize at the prestigious Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève
It is Jack Heuer, honorary chairman of TAG Heuer, and creator of the original Monza in 1976, who went on stage to receive the prize upon the request of Jean-Claude Biver, TAG Heuer CEO and President of the Watch Division of the LVMH Group.

1976-2016 : 40 years of history. A celebration marked by a beautiful reissue, the ultimate recreation of this iconic watch.

In 1976, Jack Heuer, the great grandson of the brand's founder, designed a chronograph to celebrate Niki Lauda's first world championship title with FERRARI. The Swiss watch company was then Official Timekeeper for Scuderia (from 1971 to 1979), and it was the first time that MONZA had appeared on the dial of a watch.

At that time, the watch was markedly different, yet very stylish. Its coussin case was inspired by a 1925 model. An all-black chronograph equipped with a pulsometer (to measure the heart rate) and a tachymeter scale (which converts time into speed), red hands and counters to reflect its racing heritage, the new design ushered in a brand new era in the history of this model.

Beautiful watches never go out of fashion.

Return to its roots: the 2016 reissue features the watch's two key functions - the pulsometer and the tachymeter scale (not included on previous reissues) - and with the original font.

Of course, the famous original coussin case is the centrepiece, and is all black, just like the historic model, with black and white lacquered hour and minute hands as on the original. The same applies to the indices in vintage orange SuperLuminova™. Likewise, the historic HEUER logo on the dial, which attests to the model's place in the manufacture's historic collection.

A link from past to present, the case is now made from grade 5 titanium (previously steel), making it lighter and more shock resistant. The material is coated with titanium carbide to give it a powerful, matt black appearance.

The diameter has also been increased (from 39 mm on the original models to 42 mm, for a more modern, masculine look). It is equipped with a "super racing" strap in full-grain black calfskin with top-stitching, which evokes the design of the three-spoke steering wheel on the racing cars of the time.

Inside, the 17 automatic calibre, a chronograph with its two chronograph counters at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock – perfectly spaced for a beautifully harmonious dial. The screw-on back is numbered and features the historic HEUER logo engraved with red lacquer finish.

The original Heuer Monza is highly sought after by collectors, and has been reissued only a handful of times. So close to the spirit of the original, this model, which celebrates its 40-year anniversary, will undoubtedly represent a milestone in the history of the manufacture's heritage.

Hublot is the only watch brand to be awarded the highest distinction in the Red Dot Award Product Design 2017, the Red Dot Best of the Best. However, several other watch brands were also honored in this year’s awards, which recognize design excellence in a variety of products.

In total, eleven watches were awarded the internationally recognized Red Dot Design Award for product design. Hublot received the the highest distinction with its Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 Magic Gold, the Red Dot Best of the Best. TAG Heuer and Maurice Lacroix were both able to win two Red Dot awards, while Armin Strom, Chronoswiss, Nomos, and Rado each received one award (see list below).

Manufacturers and designers from 54 countries entered a record number of more than 5,500 products in the Red Dot Award Product Design 2017. There were significantly more watches in 2017 than in previous years.

Three members form the Red Dot watch design jury: Rüdiger Bucher, International Editorial Director of Ebner Publishing, parent company of WatchTime;Gisbert L. Brunner, contributing writer to WatchTimeand its German sister magazine, Chronos; and watch designer Simon Husslein.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Sixty-Nine was named for the year the Monaco was introduced, and is today something of an oddity ... Certainly it's a rather strange watch; it contains a hand-wound Peseaux 7001 movement, which drives a conventional mechanical display on one side; on the other (the side you can see here) is an LED display for a 1/1000 second quartz chronograph movement. You can flip the case à la the Reverso, but Edmond Jaeger never dreamed of anything like this. It seemed cool at first glance – cool enough to win the Prix de la Montre Design in 2004 at the GPHG – but its hybrid character and early reports of excessive play and too-rapid wear in the case mechanism, meant consumers didn't receive it with much enthusiasm and TAG Heuer moved with discreet haste on to other projects.

This was one of those other projects. This is a 2008 GPHG winner, in the Prix de la Montre Sport category: the TAG Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 36 RS2, which was officially launched at Baselworld the next year. Its main claim to fame is that it's a 1/10 second chronograph, with the seconds shown in a linear window to the left – behind the window is a rotating disc that changes from black to red at the forty second mark...

TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 Luxury Kit Receives Red Dot Award

The Red Dot Design Award, perhaps the most important product design recognition in the world, announced its 2018 winners Monday and one of the top awards was given to Tag Heuer for its Connected Modular 45 Luxury Kit.

The modular connected watch is one of 69 products that earned the top award of the competition, the “Red Dot: Best of The Best.” This amounts to 1.1% of the 6,300 products from 59 countries entered in 2018 for judging by the 39-member jury. The Red Dot Design Award, based in Essen, Germany, is established internationally as one of the most sought-after quality marks for good design.

Gisbert Brunner, the watch expert on the jury, emphasized the rise in the quality of the watches entered for 2018.

“This year, the range of watches entered in the competition is miles ahead of previous years,” he said. “As a jury, we had a much larger selection of interesting timepieces and it was a joy to see that these included really good designs in terms not just of their appearance but also of their touch and feel.”

Brunner was especially impressed with the modularity, including its digital to analog capability, of the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 Luxury Kit.

“It won over the jury with its modularity in particular: Parts of the watch, such as the case, the lugs, the strap and the clasp, can be interchanged,” he said. “In addition, the smartwatch module can be replaced with an automatic mechanical chronograph module.”

Tag Heuer released the watch in July 2017 after first announcing it at Baselworld, and as mentioned just about every part of the watch is interchangeable, including the digital module, which can be swapped out for a choice of two mechanical watch modules: the Caliber 5 or the premium Heuer 02T Tourbillon. It also is probably the only connected watch to earn the "Swiss Made" label, since, thanks to the analog modules, more than 60% of the manufacturing costs of the watch is incurred in Switzerland.

All of Red Dot: Best of The Best winners will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Aalto-Theater in Essen on July 9 where they will accept their trophies on stage in front of around 1,200 international guests. The award-winning products will be exhibited for four weeks in the Red Dot Design Museum in an exhibition titled, “Design on Stage – Winners Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018.”

Interesting TOPIC. I stumbled upon reading recent innovations and awards by TAG Heuer. Did you know, as of 2019, TAG Heuer is tied with third in the number of awards at the prestigious (GPHG)
Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève ?
