OK, it's time to give the main Calibre 11 website a slight polish and fix a few of those annoying items that I haven't had a chance to address- for example:
- Adding in the dates of when each post was published
- Making it easier to find the models page (https://www.calibre11.com/models)- I bet many of you didn't know it even existed!
- Pulling together a proper template for mail outs

Anything else that you'd like to see? What would make the site better and easier to navigate and read on desktop/ mobile?

Kudos on the finding it easier on models page. I just learned there is such thing as Targa Florio.

What I like about the current website is that its relatively easy to navigate (even with mobile) and very legible. (Yes i used up the term to describe vintage carrera)

I just hoped the new improvement wont change the way it navigate so equally well with both PC and Mobile.

Restoring the original publish dates was probably the most important missing feature.

How about a sort feature on the search results, by publish date [most recent or oldest first], by relevance, and by popularity?
😀
Thanks!

Not sure that I can promise on the 41mm!

Think of this as very minor updates- the look and feel won't change, nor will the layout, so the ease of reading factor won't go away!

Post dates are excellent. I always wondered why they were missing.

Could the models page list the models in approximate chronological order?

It was never an intentional choice- just overlooked in the new design

Good point on the oder of the models- at the moment it's a bit random. I was going to go for alphabetical listings, but let me have a think about chronological.

Alphabetical could work just as well. If it isn't too hard on the coding front, maybe a user dropdown to choose alphabetical or chronological...

I suggest video reviews. This will certainly drive more traffic and allow calibre11.com to spread across social media channels and grow the community.

I've been considering this too. They tend to involve a lot more work, but would be the next logical step.

Well that's the trend, everywhere, and not only watches.

Yes, it's an interesting one. I've resisted video for a few years now, because I felt that given a watch is generally a static object, I'm not sure you get a huge step forward from video than you get from photos. Compare that to a car review, where I think you have to be in Video so you get the sounds and a chance to see all the movable parts.

The other reason (OK, maybe this is my problem, not yours!) is that I'm not much good with video..and I'd have to do the editing, etc. Video is a big investment. Over at Time+Tide, we pushed hard into video:

https://www.youtube.com/user/timetidewatches

Lots of views...but at the moment, not clear what the benefit is? Doesn't really drive a lot of traffic and is expensive/ time consuming.

Having said that, I'm open to the idea...and I agree that this is the way things are heading

Start simple, easy (and free) with live shows on facebook for instance.
No need to do lengthy videos that requires a lot of preparation and post-production.
Short "on the wrist" videos to complement articles for instance.

I'd hoped to do Instagram Live or similar at Basel this year..agree that could be a good addition

I think this would be good at the trade events. The one minute videos at T&T are good and punchy. I personally find longer video reviews of watches boring and prefer to read a longer review with high quality static photography.

Just my tuppence 😀.

Can someone tell me how to find old articles? For example I found this excellent factory tour when googling "tag heuer factory visit" but how can someone find this directly on the site?

https://www.calibre11.com/tag-heuer-visit-two/

Awesome to see the 2010 Silverstone re edition btw, made me read your old excellent reviews on that one 👍

Hi Jim,

There is a search bar on the home page

I don't think it's powered by the latest and greatest search technology, but it did pull up the right articles

I keep waiting to find one of those Silverstones at a very small price!

Thank you, of course there is the search bar. Its always tricky how to make content "available". What new readers read is probably the most recent stuff. Ariel from ABTW addresses this issue in the interview by Archieluxury and how ABTW is working on finding a way to make it easier for readers to find all old brilliant content.

Noticed on C24 that Silverstone re edition is a bit pricy... for that money I would rather go for the 2016 Monza 😎
