Hi, I'm based in the UK.
I've had my S/EL since the mid '90's when my Dad brought it back as a present for me from Kuwait.
My Dad unfortunately died and I want to get the watch working again. I stopped wearing it as it has a leather strap and the strap perished.
I have had the strap replaced but the watch has now stopped working. I've had the battery replaced twice now thinking it was that but it still is not working.
The digital displays work and the stop watch function works. It starts working and the second display hands move but after several minutes it stops.
Is there any good independent specialists in the UK people recommend to send these watches to rather than an AD. Thanks Tal

Nice watch!

I love this model. I own several in different colors, including a grey dial just like yours. I'm in the US so can't recommend a UK shop for repair. But I've been researching this model's movement to perhaps attempt a repair on my own.

I suspect your problem is one of 3 things:
  • A bad coil. The ETA 251.252 movement has 5 coils, each one controls a different timing function.
  • Gears and other mechanical parts need servicing. Something could be gunked up, causing the problem.
  • Electronic Circuit has some kind of fault

Since some timing functions work but others don't, hopefully a coil replacement might fix it. This would be a simple and affordable repair. If it's one of the other potential problems, an alternative is to have a shop swap in a new replacement ETA 251.252 movement. But these movements are not cheap and not easy to find.

Good luck on getting it fixed! 🤞
