To be honest I think there's more important things to worry about. At the other end of the spectrum JLC (I think it is) make a watch with a gold movement that's decorated to the hilt and it has a solid caseback. WTF is the point of that?
Also, not entirely related, but a while back my wife was looking at the Tudor Claire de Rose line which comes in three sizes. The middle one had the same movement as the smaller one and hence the date was in the middle of the dial. Now that's something to be embarrassed about, not a thin ring of acetal homopolymer resin...
