Depends what you want I guess. Connected will do loads more things, but it will get out of date fast. The Aquaracer won't need charging every night either.

I would recommend you delay your decision anyway, considering the new connected model is 6 months before being released and the current ones are getting harder to find. You might want to wait for the new models next year before taking your decision.

Unless you buy the mechanical module Carrera Calibre 5 in addition. Then you can swap the smartwatch module for the automatic module whenever you want, and you have two watches in one: a traditional automatic watch and the smartwatch

@Plunjar : Have you tried both the Connected Modular 45 and the 41? I found the 41 too small for me (I think it was designed mostly for ladies)... and also the strap was very short. So if you finally decide to buy the 41, be sure the strap fits your wrist, because there are longer available straps for the 41

That's my worry that the connected becomes quickly outdated. I think if I do get the connected I'll opt for a used one. Here I can get a decent one for approx £600 rather than a new one for £1200.

Carrera Calibre 5 for the 41 / Carrera Calibre 16 and Calibre 5 for the 45

The calibre 5 module is £1400 just for the head. Lugs and straps come separately.. I'm not looking to spend that much. Hence I'm looking at the connected 41.

I mean a complete Connected Modular watch + the Carrera Calibre 5 module (that you can buy later). Then you have the lugs and straps that you can use with both modules, so you have 1 smart watch and 1 automatic watch for a similar price of just 1 non-modular Calibre 5

Yes I see what you mean now. Didn't realise the calibre 5 was a standard automatic watch that fitted the connected bracelet.

Yes, this is why this watch is called “Modular”: because you can easily change straps and lugs, but mainly because you can easily interchange the smartwatch module for a mechanical module (Carrera Calibre 5, for the 41), using the same lugs and straps. So you have two interchangeable heads for the same bracelet, two watches in one, with total price being very similar to just the standard (non-modular) automatic Calibre 5 watch.

This was the brilliant idea from TH to avoid the fear that such an expensive smartwatch would become outdated, because if some day the smartwatch module becomes obsolete, you can use the automatic module forever. This is why you can read “Connected to Eternity” on the caseback of the mechanical modules 😉

Thanks for the in depth information. In your opinion when do think the tag heuer connected will become obsolete.

It depends on the smartwatch features you require. I guess someday in the future it will not receive more system updates, so some new apps may not work... but if you are fine with current functions and apps (In fact I’m only using the notifications, the factory installed Google Fit app, and the WatchMaker app... so it will last a lot for me) then it should be working fine for many years, just depending on the battery life. I don’t know if the battery could be replaced when is over, but it should last many years anyway, just losing some % of the capacity.

Nice combo! 👍 You can include later some additional straps to your starting “Modular collection”, and even the Carrera Calibre 5 mechanical module 😉

I started in May 2018 just with the Connected Modular 45 with brown leather strap, and later my Modular collection was growing, step by step, until it’s become like this! 😁
