Monza CR2080 - Yay or Nay?

The more often I see pics and videos of this model, the more I feel that it is a fairly unique and truly beautiful watch - both a bit out of the ordinary and easily wearable.

Given that finding a true vintage blacked-out chrono in good condition at an acceptable price is now basically “mission impossible”, this feels like the next best thing (with the exception of the TH-only service due to the modular caliber).

I was wondering what the TH Forum consensus re. this watch was - especially with those members (@Albert-AMG, @YG_Rulz) who still own or have owned it… ?

Love this one, despite me not being a vintage kiddo.

Its a lovely watch. The steel pushers give an excellent touch to the blacked out case. The same PVD coating that adds to the glamour is prone to coming off especially around the lugs or the crown. Once the polish goes off, the steel underneath shines out and destroys the look.

I personally prefer the minimal chrono sub-dials so the bi-compax blends in very nicely into the dial. The only qualm I have with the dial is that the hour markers are opaline beige, the hands are white and the hand lumes are a milder beige. The 3 different colours is a bit much for me, but it grows on you.

But honestly its a great watch for daily wear. I call this the poor man's Dark Lord and maintain that.

This is one of Tag Heuer best ReEditions.
GPHG Award winner in 2016.
It is truly a beautiful watch.

@paysdoufs I really love it! 🥰

I like the OEM strap (very soft and comfortable), I like it is Grade 5 titanium (because it is very lightweight and comfortable), I like its black titanium carbide finish (fine-brushed and mirror, depending on the zone) because it is more practical and scratch-resistant than chrome, I like its personal case shape, I like the dial, I like the black with red accents combo, I like its clean caseback, I like it is a numbered Limited Edition (and not a lazy “One of…”), I like its link with Niki Lauda… I like everything of this watch! 👍

Ohhh...

🥰🥰🥰

BTW: Isn't the vanilla lume strictly identical on the hands and the indices and it's just our brains tricking us into seeing something else?

This is on of the rare examples, where the re-edition looks better than the original. Love mine.

Dang, am I the only one now on C24 window shopping for a Monza?

The caseback is the best part about this beautiful timepiece

There's got to be a reason why so many of these end up on a different strap. Probably okay for occasional wear... cool watch though.

not really, the hour markers are more beige than the lume on the hands. Under artifical yellow light, they seem similar, but other wise there's a clear difference. that's one of the things that bugs me.

I'm just kidding here. I eventually sold it in december. I had purchased it for a friend in my watch group, but it had some damage on the case (polish was off) so had to sell it off to someone who didn't care about it.

I think these are cool and particularly tempting at current secondary prices (I've seen them below 3k US)

Can't help but think it looks kinda uncomfortable to wear though.

Quite the opposite! With the OEM strap it is the most comfortable watch I have 👍

Very nice watch, just a bit disappointed it doesn't have a display back. It seems a shame to me to hide the automatic mechanism, and that's something I look for.

The Monza is powered by the Cal 17 movement, which is not all that great to look at. It has minimal decoration or aesthetic features. From memory, none of the Cal 17 watches have an exhibition back.

This is how the Calibre 17 movement looks in the Monza

But I think the caseback is really sexy 😉

I really like it, vintage Heuer vibes and the Nikki Lauda connection, I was surprised it wasn't more successful but not everyone is a 50+ year old car racing fan
