Monaco Calibre 12 CAW2111-0 vs CAW2111-1?

Hey y'all, yesterday I was at my local AD and they had a Monaco Calibre 12 CAW2111-1 in stock. I already own a Monaco Calibre 12, but the model number of mine is a CAW2111-0. I was wondering if any members know what is the difference between a Moncao Calibre 12 that is a CAW2111-0 vs CAW2111-1? Any information would be appreciated thanks.

The watches look identical on the outside as far as I can tell. What year is your CAW2111-0 from?

I believe that "CAW2111-1" is a more recent release designation. Perhaps the CAW2111-0 has the ETA movement and the CAW2111-1 has the Selitta movement, that's the only difference I can think of.

I purchased my Monaco -0 back in 2015, but I'm not sure when it was made. Is it possible to look up a manufactured date? I know in the past couple of years TAG Heuer has been coming out with newer versions of the Monaco like the Calibre 11, 50th anniversary and Heuer 02 models to phase out the Calibre 12, but I was really curious what was the difference between the -0 vs -1. Is there a possible way to find out from ___year to ___year used -0 and later years used -1?

I'm not aware of any method to check on the exact manufacture date. Perhaps if you provide TAG Heuer with your serial number they can look it up. Most people go by the date the watch was purchased new as an approximation of its production year.

From the CAW2111 -0 & -1 watches I looked at for sale (which listed year of production) on Chrono24, it seems that CAW2111-1 might have been from around 2017/18 to 2019/20. The CAW2111-0 from 2009 to around 2016/17.

FYI: The Calibre 12 Monaco was introduced in 2009 and ran until the end of 2019 when it was replaced by the Monaco H02 as its official successor model. The heritage Heuer Calibre 11 Monaco (including the 50th anniversary model) was not meant to phase out the C12, it ran concurrently with that model. The C11 continues today because a left-hand crown successor "heritage" model has yet to be introduced.

As a general rule, TH watches manufactured before 2015, the movement base is ETA. After 2015 movement base is somewhat shifted to Sellita. Probably due to limitation of supply and cost constraints buying the movement from ETA/Omega group. This is not perfectly true in all cases but I've read this statement somewhere in the forum and holds some valid significance. For quality between ETA and Sellita, somehow ETA > Sellita is more reliable base on what I've read. Not really sure if this is really true. HTH 👍

Yes, this "rumor" was mentioned by @VirgileF. I don't know his source or whether it's really true.

Monaco CAW211P (launched in October 2015) : only Sellita, never ETA.

Calibre 12 : ETA and Sellita, then only Sellita from end of 2015.

But others thought the shift was later. Perhaps it might even depend on the model.

Even the the article you referenced before is not definitive, it states the 2020 Monaco CAW211P has the Selitta movement, but makes no mention about whether it has had it since 2015.

I recall that many of the articles at the time of the release of the 2015 Heuer Monaco CAW211P used to say ETA or Selitta. This is one example: http://www.horbiter.com/en/baselwor...aco-calibre-12-blue-dial-heritage-collection/

So while we can use 2015 as a rough approximation, it's not so black and white. In the case of CAW2111-0 and -1, if indeed the 0 = ETA and 1 = Selitta (which is only my guess), then it could be easier to know the difference.
