Monaco 50 - what are the chances?

Happy 2019 one & all.

As I understand it, 2019 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Monaco.

I already have two but I really (really really...lol) want a re-release more faithful to the original, specifically with the Silverstone, Monza, Autavia & Carrera style mushroom chronograph pushers.

I know I’ve mentioned this a number of times before (sorry) but what are the chances?

Something faithful to a 1133B would really make my year!!

Cheers,

Simon

Yes, we know there will be a 50th Anniversary Monaco; there's been a lot of interest around this topic, which has been widely discussed in the last year on this forum and even referenced by Biver himself.

Beyond that, all details are being kept under secrecy. Odds are we'll learn about it around Baselworld, which thankfully is just around the corner.

Just a little more patience mate.

Speaking of Baselworld, anyone know what dates will be open to the public and when tickets will be available? Their website is terrible or maybe its me not knowing how to browse this internet thingy... (Sorry for going anbit off topic)

Ps. My wish is for a broadening of the Monaco line due to the celebration instead of just one anniversary model. Imagine a couple of color variants, sizes and of course a blue/white quartz version 🥰

Any chance the Heuer 02 fits in the Monaco case?

Because putting the 12 hour counter on the Monaco would be awesome. Dial layout could match the recently released Viceroy Autavia. Eh?

Oooh, no.... 3 register Monacos don't look good, IMO.

The 50th anniversary sounds like the ideal time to resurrect the Grand Monaco project to me! grand%2Bmonaco%2B2.JPG

To be fair, that was a protortype, I'm sure they would have finessed it a bit if it had made it into production. Now of course, they could ask Mr Bamford to sprinkle it with his special pixie dust.🤪

The 02 would allow for subdials exactly like the 1133. TH might even throw in fluted pushers like on the Peterson Carrera. However I like the modern pushers. They complement the square case well and make the watch more suitable for formal occasions imo. The asking price for a rumored LE will probably be similar or even higher than a proper vintage 1133 so I would always choose vintage in that case. I hope TH have something more exciting op their sleeve than an exact replica. It will be hard to beat the Bamford Monaco though.

Well we've already seen the Heuer 02 without the running seconds subdial in the Viceroy homage. My bet is at least a Heuer 02 version of the Monaco, maybe with round pushers again since they've essentially already reissued the 1133B recently with the Heuer logo etc.

I definitely agree with you and hope that they release something with the Heuer 02 movement, but with the current square pushers. From a personal point, I never really liked the round pushers. The question is however if they are not planning on releasing a number of Monaco's. That would make sense since it would allow TH to do a truly limited edition but I also hope that they make a good re-edition which can take the place of the current Monaco in the product range.

The only thing that might be tricky with the Heuer 02 movement would, however, be the position of the crown, but maybe they are working on some kind of solution to this?

That is why I think a Dark Lord with a Heuer02 could work. Doing another classic blue McQueen is a low possibility in my mind.

Well, maybe that could lead to a bit lower price on the current Calibre11 edition, which I would very much appreciate for egoistic reasons! 😁

The "Dark Lord" would be interesting to see, but at the moment I'm more than happy with the current editions. But I'm definitely looking forward to this year's edition of SIHH!

It would not be very racy, but to commemorate this exceptional watch they could also do a LE (e.g. 50 pieces) version of the current edition CAW211P in Platinum or white gold.
Patek did this with their Natuilus for the 40th anniversary: https://www.ablogtowatch.com/patek-philippe-nautilus-40th-anniversary-57111p-watch/
That would be a lot of fun to see, albeit way to expensive for my wallet! Does TH have any experience in releasing watches in white gold or platinum?

Good question.
I'm also not sure, if it would be a good idea to go to the high end market with the Monaco. But they already did the Monaco V4 or the Heuer 02 Tourbillon in the Carrera Range etc.

Wow, EUR 5'000! That must have been quite a bargain!

Indeed, doesn't really make sense does it? I mean a bog standard Monaco Cal11 is more than that.
