Thank you for the answers. I see that I am not the only one and many other share this … uneasiness?

TH is a brand that I really like and feel a rather strong emotional attachment. It was my first “luxury” watch in the early 1990s (I paid around 1,000 US$) and my only nice watch for more than twenty years. Omega was kind of my grail brand, but I couldn’t afford back then or in the years that followed (I just bought my first Omega a couple of months ago) so TH became “my brand”.

So it makes me feel sad when I see some mismanagement, extreme milking and fuzzy positioning in the last few years, and makes me wonder about the future value of a brand that seems to be eroding. But what do I know? Time will tell.

Anyway, it is great to see all the photos that you post here!!

Unfortunately, at the end of the day TAG Heuer is a company with shareholders, and like any company with shareholders all that matters is the share price and the dividend. If the sales and the share price go up Mr Biver is a genius, if they go down he isn't... shareholders don't give two fudge sundaes about 'heritage' and if you ask those shareholders I bet they think the Manchester United watch is wonderful.

People here are extremely hard on TAG, and TAG is in a difficult position that other brands aren't. People shouldn't compare TAG with Omega all the time, Omega are priced to compete with Rolex not TAG. TAG appeals to a demographic that probably also buys 'designer' labels without a doubt, it's ridiculous to ignore that and imagine that TAG should operate as a brand like Rolex does.

I don't really get why people have a problem with TAG making wallets, and sunglasses (I have both) and things like that - how does it devalue the brand? They are well made and pretty nice things to own, certainly not as tacky as alarm clocks and yet plenty of people would like to own a Helmet alarm clock... (me included). Seems like as usual anything is okay as long as there's a historical precedent (which I don't buy into personally), but that's the watch industry all over, if there was some obscure Heuer & Co watch with a jade dial then great lets have a jade dial Carrera... and that'll be fine because there's a 'history' behind it.

I've said it before, but if history is so wonderful then why aren't we getting reissues of the Titanium series?

This is a sincere anniversary LE #45 of 50 I just acquired. Took it to the Tag Heuer store and verified the serial number. The manager tried to purchase it from me on the spot. Can’t seem to find much detail on it other than it was released in 2004 approximately 5 years before the first black faces that came out in 2009. Any Tag Heuer buffs that could share some more history on this piece would be greatly appreciated.

This would be a good opportunity to update the guide:

Wow! Usually I am a huge fan of the navy and red combo but this one really jumps out at me. I missed out on my chance to own a Monaco. It was a neat black tag Monaco that had a broken stem, and it was discounted to a mere 1000usd, I waited just minutes too long and it was snagged up. Had original box and papers too. 🙁

I had been researching them and trying to find the one. When I stumbled across this one. It was more than I was looking to spend but I figured I would never see another one and should probably buy it. There are a lot of limited editions watches on the market these days. Most of which are runs of 1500 to 4000 pieces. You can find them pretty much everywhere. This particular one being only a 50 piece run seemed like a safe bet.

I have seen this limited edition was not here, and it’s my beater! 😀

It’s the TAG Heuer Micrograph (sometimes known as Micrograph F1). It won a design prize in Geneve 2002, and F1 driver David Coulthard was involved in its design (it has a lap by lap time log, including a “best lap” function). At the beginning, this Micrograph was sold in the TH boutique of the Paddock Club VIP facilities during the F1 GP’s. At that time TH was the FIA F1 World Championship official timekeeper, and was sponsoring the McLaren-Mercedes F1 Team.

This Micrograph Limited (and numered) Edition was previous to the non-limited Microtimer, which was very similar.

Mine is 556/999

What a bizarre beater watch, I have the Microtimer and it scratches like nothing else so I only wear it under a sleeve... still, nice thing to have the limited version!

😁 Mine is so uniformly scratched that I'm no longer worried. At the beginning I was, and I polished it two times, but I realized that when it’s naturally scratched, it’s also nice.

So now, one more scratch doesn't make any difference and I’m not suffering anymore. I consider it like a special finish or patina, and I fully enjoy this watch because with its buckle and rubber strap is very easy/fast to put and remove, it’s very clear to read what time is, and today that I’m traveling from Barcelona to Austin, I’m not afraid to magnetize it in the airport, and it has a very useful dual time function 👍

16:51 now in New York, and 22:51 at home, in Barcelona. It’s very easy to switch from T1 to T2

Must say I do like that micrograph. Kinda looks a bit like a Star Trek gadget. Quite cool.

Yes! 😀 It was a pretty “extreme” design, 16 years ago!

If you are in the UK the outlets at Cheshire Oaks and Bicester Village have just got these in... about £1600 I think.

I wish I could wear mine everyday, but... I just can't bear to get it scratched up like that. I'm sure your way is the best way, but I just can't bring myself to do it! 😀

You sir, are what they call in addiction treatment - an ‘enabler’ :whipped:

Seriously though. Thanks for the heads up. With a bit of luck it will be sold before I get there. My track record of walking out and resisting temptationnis not good 😁

Ah, what I forgot to mention is that they are on a white leather strap, but if you speak nicely to Tom at the Bicester store I bet he will get you a nice black rubber strap for it, he told me they were thinking of doing that anyway because it's a hard sell to the ladies. Also, the Bicester store has the positive display, the Cheshire Oaks store has the negative display (like Albert's and mine). Personally I think the negative display is way cooler... but again I'm sure Tom would get the negative one sent down for you - depends were you live I guess. Or maybe you can rock the white leather strap? I would! 😀 And of course, these are the non-limited Microtimers, not the Mikrograph, but the only real difference is the back plate so no big deal really..
