Is this a new ‘low’ in recycled limited edition. Change the name on the sticker printing machine. Maybe there’ll be a Blackpool or Skegness edition in a few months ::rimshot::

Seems everyone is jumping on the ‘London’ bandwagon!!! Now from Omega....

It's a shame that these city branded limited editions don't have any clear design differentiation. Missed opportunity IMO.

I reckon. Same watch with a different city written on the back. Very poor. TAG Heuer are starting to get into Omega territory with all these so called limited editions.

Yes, that is my impression as well. If they didn't want to change the dials, how about flag colors on NATO straps or something.

Or least change the highlight colour from red to something that could be associated with the city or country. British Racing Green, for example, for the London edition.

All their watches seem to be black with red accents at the moment.

Yeah, missed opportunity for sure. Maybe next time they'll be a little more adventurous.

I think this is new, no ?

Two weeks ago I found something „old“. My AD had a 2016 TAGHeuer catalogue concerning football related watches. There I found a „Formula 1 Bundesliga“, obviously intended for the German market. I have never heard about it before. The AD found out that it is no longer available from TAGHeuer. But there are some on the Internet.

There is something about how TAG Heuer is managing the brand that has been bothering me for some time now.

One issue is related to LE and it seems like I am not the only one here. TH is issuing new LEs quite frequently with very minor product changes (like changing the name of a city and nothing more). What is the value of a LE when there is no apparent different with other editions of the same watch and when next week will be another undifferentiated LE? It’s like the company is “milking” the brand without investing in it.

Other issue relate to brand authenticity. TAG Heuer has deep roots in car racing and a rich history, as well as specific lines like Carrera or Formula 1. Now the problem that I see is that they are using one of those lines, the Formula 1, to launch watches with … football ties !!!! (read football=soccer for US members). What is the brand authenticity when you offer a Formula 1 Manchester United watch??

Do others feel the same, or am I watching another channel?

Do others feel the same, or am I watching another channel?

I tend to agree. I’ve always been a fan, but the whole ‘brand milking’ I think dilutes both credibility as a fine watchmaker and the umpteen mediocure LE watches smacks of desperation. I mean who wants a bog standard watch that simply has a different city name printed on the case back? (And yes I think omega do far too many LEs as well), but I’ve not seen Omega branded brollies, sports back, luggage, sunglasses or whatever else. So their faux pas (if we can accuse them of that) are limites to their core reputation.

Tag has become a brand like Boss To some degree. Maybe it works and makes sense from a pure business sense, but I suspect in the long term it dilutes the value of their watch branding. A bit like BMW slapping ‘M’ on anything it can find has diluted that brand’s velue amonhst purists.

But the bigger picture is that collectors/enthusiasts make up such a small fraction of sales that pleasing ‘us’ (or not) has little consequences on the bottom line. For evey person who covets a limited edition reissue heuer because of some history or fanciful link to a sporting event, there are 100x more who buy an Aquaracer because they really want a Seamaster (many of who’s buyers would similarly like a Sub) and may never have heard of a Royal Oak and could never afford a Nautilus. But the Tag brand has enough cache in their mind to entice them to drop £2+ on abdiver watch that’ll probably only ever get wet in a Club Med swimming pool. So adding perceived prestige through Ambasador endorsements and peripheral lifestyle accessories that are equally highly prized helps to reinforce the ‘value’ - even if the technical merits of the watch are lacking (from an utility or purist perspective).

As much as I like some (but far from all) of the TH/H product set - my genuine perception of the brand is that the relative value is lower compared to a Omega for example. Even taking into account the like for like price difference I feel there's a (relatively) higher percentage of the paid price going into the ‘image’ of the watch with TH and the marketing than the R&D and materials applied. (Put simply few of the £5k Tags feel as high quality as the £5k Omegas - be it leather straps, deployabt clasps, bracelets). The finish is on the whole comparatively under par. Good enough and nice enough, but side by side not on a par. And I’m comparing watches that cost the same.

I’ll still buy a few more no doubt as there are a few designs like the Monza and the H01/02 Carreras which I still covet and find appealing. But

Personally I’d rather TH did more along the lines of the tete de Vaper watch, but maybe without the Tourbillon and focussed less on the noddy LEs. But if they don’t so what? There are other brands and options. In the meantime unless there’s a business reason for them to change direction I suspect it will be more of the same. I guess so long as the whole enterprisenis profitable and helps fun the pieces we each like and we’re happy with those, the bigger picture becomes less relevant.

Hope they have a new Monza inspired model soon 😁

Sweet FA! But MU are huge in the far east and china so i guess it is essentially a marketing gimmik.

Personally I’ve no desire to have a watch with a football team branding on it - or even a specific racing drivers logo or signiture on it. To me it is like the Start Wars branding on the toys given away with a happy meal..... even if there is a genuine historic tie in the case of Senna or whever else. I don’t want any logo other than the watchmaker on the dial. By all means use it in the marketing promotion. But keep it off the watch. Unlessnit is the actual one that driver wore then to me it is just a little tacky. I appreciate I may be in the minority with this view. But there are so many watches to choose from plenty to allow each their own so no harm really.

Totally agree with this 😀 it does not bother me that TH does things I dont like because the things I do like is what matters, and there are plenty of things I love about the brand and the watches

Yes and no you aren't watching another channel.

but I’ve not seen Omega branded brollies, sports back, luggage, sunglasses or whatever else.

To be fair, TAG Heuer discontinued all of their apparel about 4 years ago when JCB took the helm.
I feel there's a (relatively) higher percentage of the paid price going into the ‘image’ of the watch with TH and the marketing than the R&D and materials applied.

For most large brands, 40% of RRP goes into the marketing and image. This is more or less the same regardless of the brand. Have you ever stopped to think about how much Omega spends on the James Bond branding?

Put simply few of the £5k Tags feel as high quality as the £5k Omegas - be it leather straps, deployabt clasps, bracelets)

I'm not sure I agree. I tried on a titanium AT and it felt like it was made of plastic!

Personally I’d rather TH did more along the lines of the tete de Vaper watch, but maybe without the Tourbillon and focussed less on the noddy LEs.

Completely agree with this statement. Not that I can afford the Tete de Vipere but I still love the fact that they produced it.

And since I posted above I’ve been searching for suitable watch boxes..... and through a link to a since discontinued Omega box that I stumbled across I found the ‘accessories’ section of their website. And spotted they also do Sunglasses!!

Oh FFS! ::facepalm1:: 😁😁
