Just started watch collecting

I hope it's okay for the FNG to start a new thread, but....

I just started watch collecting with this Tag Heuer CBN2A1F.FC6492.

It's the first watch I've actually bought for myself -- all other previous watches had been gifts. I ended up buying it off Chrono24 a few weeks ago, and it came up just fine on the Tag warranty page. In fact, since I registered it with Tag, it now has the extended 5-year warranty, so I'm reasonably certain it's genuine.

Great first watch. Congratulations.

Is this watch supposed to be kinda noisy? When I'm in a quiet space, I can hear the self-winding action in one direction and the rotor spinning in the other. Is this normal for the Heuer 02 caliber, or do I need to get my new watch serviced?

It's normal. The H02 movement is very noisy. TH have made improvements in the new TH20-00 bi-directional evolution of the movement .

Okay, thanks. Just a bit surprising such an expensive watch is so loud. I didn't notice the noise in the watch boutique, but I guess that location wasn't as quiet as home.

Will the noise settle down after a while, or is that just the way it will be? It's not a big deal either way, just wondering if it will "wear in" at some point or if my watch will always have its own sound track.

That's just the way the sound is, won't get better or worse. Doesn't bother me at all, some people actually like the sound.

FYI. A Patek, which is even more expensive, has a loud rotor spin sound too. See this post.

Embrace the sound - I love being reminded that my watch has a mechanical movement in it. The sound of steel bearings rubbing on steel rails. Mmmm. Love it.
Other brands do this too - JLC, Vacheron and even Rolex now use ceramic ball bearings for the winding rotor, so they all make a noise.

So, it turns out my wife is more obsessed with these watches than I am, more than I even thought possible.

Two weekends ago, we went to a nearby mall and visited the local AD. We both looked at a number of watches, and she really liked a couple of Link models. We left without buying anything, but I took notes because her birthday is only 7 months away and I need to plan ahead. 馃槣

When we got home, she started shopping online, looking for the ones she liked in the store. Then, she ran across pics of WBC1392.BH0744, and became obsessed with it. And, of course, the watch was discontinued a couple of years ago and almost impossible to find. I even called back to the store and talked with the salesman who helped us; he called all over, even called TH, but no joy.

She's been looking for one almost every night since then. Even found one listed in Italy, but they won't ship to the US. She keeps emailing me links to sites that list it, but every site has been either sold out or not able to take orders (a few companies seem to have shut down and just left zombie web sites running).

I have also been searching, and actually found a used one online that she missed. Long story short, it just arrived. Here it is:

What do you think?

Now I have to go delete all evidence of it off the computer before she gets home. 馃槻

Nice. My wife really wanted the Bella Hadid version with the diamond bezel, but it was about 5000 for quartz!

She liked that one too, but wants this one for everyday wear and thinks diamond bezels are too fancy for everyday.

Since the Carrera is still at TH and will probably be there for at least another month, and since Mother's Day is only 12 days away, I'm starting to think she'll get this one now and the Carrera will wait until her birthday.

I think giving her a box with an actual watch in it is a much better (and safer) option than an empty box with a promissory note. A bird in the hand, and all that....
