Well, Zenith does exactly the same.

And guess what... I find myself daydreaming about me in about 10 years, driving a Royal Enfield (Time and Tide special edition of couse) with that Zenith extra special on my wrist in a horde of men, who all think they could stay young forever.

Cool or completely insane?
Both? 😉

Hehe I would not call it cool nor insane. I guess its just one of those things some guys go through when they reach their 60's 😉

Speaking of the Zeniths, writing "extra special" on the dial makes it so much less special to me. It is like when a product is named "luxury" instantly making it tacky and the opposite of luxury.

I agree, the writing is unnecessary. But it's just a detail. I don't know why, but somehow this watch appeals to me, it's that irrational thing, you know.

I hear you, they are really nice besides that tiny detail

I thought that was a joke, but apparently they do actually make a watch with 'Extra Special' on the dial. Wow. That's absolutely unbelievable...

Okay, so here's my offer. I will type 'TAG Heuer' every time (and thus avoid the need to keep paying $10) if you guys type 'Heuer by TAG Heuer' when referring to any watch bearing the Heuer name made after 1985.

Deal?

Don't look at me, I already always reference @TAGHeuer as the manufacturer on all my Instagram shots.

TAG it is then!
:whipped:

In that case, you only would avoid to pay the $10 typing 'Techniques d'Avant Garde'

😁 😁

What’s in a name? I bought my watches because of the style/design, yes it’s nice to have a McQueen Monaco*or drive a Honda* that Senna helped develop but, if they had been made by “back street knock up” ltd. I still would have bought them, it’s the object I buy or desire not the hype( sorry if I have just caused a few heart attacks) so brand ambassadors or sponsorship would not colour my decisions.

* Both items I lusted after since first seeing them and it took some time until the piggy bank had enough to cough up. Now for the Lotus Elan +2s.😁 If only.

You wouldn't believe it, but it is special: they already put that on the dial more then a century ago when Louis Bleriot was the first aviator to fly over the English Channel, wearing a Zenith SPECIAL.

Now would we still cancel this text, if we were to acquire one of those beauties?

It will be interesting to see how things develop, maybe TAG will become less 'aggressive'? But I can't see them abandoning ambassadors, social media is very important to their business and they can't just endlessly recycle the connection with Senna and Steve McQueen, and as yet Max is not in a position to be a World Champion. I think us older people forget that Steve McQueen and Senna mean very little to 20 year olds.

In addition to needing to appeal to a younger audience there’s also the need to have some relevance to the large proportion of the world’s population who don’t much care for motorsport. Of course it should always be a mainstay and centre stage due to the long heritage and history. But to appeal to a wider audience it can’t be the ‘only’ link to the brand surely? I love the Monaco and Carrera, and appreciate a nice sports car yet couldn’t give to flying **** about F1.

They’ve also had long standing links to ski racing for example and more recently yacht racing.
