Howdy all! Any one here familiar with this watch? I've been told its a Date 45 from the mid 60's. It does have the Landeron 189 movement in it. Any help on the reference number/value would be greatly appreciated. Here is the pic I have.

It is a Carrera Dato 45 (45 minutes sub-register) reference 3147N First Execution. And very nice too. http://www.heuerpriceguide.com/#/carrera-60s/4561057250 will give you an idea of value which is very dependent on condition and originality. The dial and hands look nice but the lugs on the case seem to have taken some knocks. Hard to tell from just one photo though because of the way the sharp top edges catch the light.

An absolutely exceptional one sold for CHF20,000 at auction last November, so that is the upper limit of value. There is a reasonable amount of information about them on the web now you know the proper reference. Remember this is a first execution, the second execution shifted the date window to the 9 o'clock position.

Edited for minor clarifications and to add: they were introduced in 1966 and succeeded by the 2nd execution in 1969. Came in just two versions, black (N) as here and silver (S), no pandas AFAICT. Info from "Heuer Carrera Chronographs 1963 - 1985" by Richard Crosthwaite and Paul Gavin -- which every Carrera owner should possess 👍

Thank you MRC,

I have been (sort of) collecting watches for the last ten years or so this one is my absolute favorite.

The Dato 45 is a splendid watch and for me a timeless classic.

Lovely example and apart from a few knocks looks to be in excellent condition 😎

Just a tiny addition to the information already given: the second hand is not correct for this watch.

Too short?

Hmmmm, to quote Donald Sutherland in the original M*A*S*H movie "I'm sure I know you from somewhere Sir" 😉

Too short?

The ‘tail’ has a different shape (should be a short ‘arrowed tail’ as pictured above). And yes, it’s a tad too short.

Not sure about this... where from, do you think?

That's what I thought -- eventually. 👍 At first with with that nom-de-Calibre11 and that level of expertise I envisaged "Mika R", with whom I have had some correspondence since finding that I was not alone in liking early Carreras only three years ago. The 48th anniversary of acquiring my first is coming up real soon. 🥰

Wow, so you are indeed a long term collector!

Mika has an outstanding collection, with Carreras I can only dream of. His own website is absolutely beautiful.

You might have a look at my watches on Instagram @heuer_carrera

Have a nice weekend!

I don't think of it as a collection, just a choice of nice watches to wear.

Very nice! I especially like the BT15. I had a Ginetta F3 of that era but never actually raced it. Later a 1600 F3 GRD that I raced for a couple of years. UK circuits only though, never anywhere like Monaco.
