TAG's demographic since the start back in 1984 has been those who have strived - they've worked really hard and finally are able to buy their first nice watch. Arnault is not in that demographic - he probably had at least one Patek or Rolex waiting for him on his 16th birthday. And I think ultimately that shows with the recent focus on making TAGs more expensive, but not higher quality.

Wasn't Jack Heuer like 25 years old, fresh out of school with no experience when he was hired only because he was the son of the owner?

I would like to point out that JH had to loan money and buy his uncle’s share of Heuer & Co. in order to become CEO. It wasn’t just given to him. Initially He didn’t want to do anything with the company not until he realized he needed to step up. He didn’t study watchmaking, he was an engineer. A sense of duty and family eventually made him join the company which was less than 40 employees at that time. A very small company. After 4 years in the company, studying marketing and establishing Heuer USA, he became CEO and the rest is history. JH’s story is very humble and inspiring to say the least.

Valid of course 👍 I am in no way saying its a one to one exact story. Just that only because we currently have an inexperienced young guy as ceo making changes, doesn't mean all goes to shit. In ten, 20 or 30 years who knows maybe the case is that Arnault made an important historical impact with TAG. I doubt it, but we cant know.

My question would be: What's TAG Heuer's plan for "Heuer" branded, heritage editions?

So does anyone know how Jean Christophe Babin was thought of during his 14 years at TH? He made some good watches and some not so good watches, he also took the brand in the haute horlogerie direction with the V4 and numerous other products..

He might reply by saying " We can't live off the Heuer history. We need to go down the new vibrant road and get Influencer types to promote our Brand"
Makes me sad, as I love the Heuer branded pieces.

I am keeping the faith. The year just started and they did appoint Nicholas Biebuyck as heritage director just last year.

My question would be, if there will be a future for the carbon hairspring?
And while we're talking I might ask for a big discount for my next purchase...

Okay, so imagine you got into a lift with Steve McQueen, what single question would you ask him'?

'So... Steve, what films were you in again?'

If I could ask Arnault one question, my question would be

"Please sir, can you fix me an invitation to the museum and factories, I would love to go?"

So far hasn't done anything worthwhile in his time as CEO. A friend of mine says that Tag are turning into Movado. He's not far wrong.
He has made several decisions with which, as a client of the brand, I do not agree at all. After JC Biver launched Gen2 of the TH Connected (all made in titanium) in 2017, so proud and enthusiastic to be Swiss Made and with its great Modular concept 😀… the new management in 2020 goes on to manufacture Gen3 in China, without Modular system, and in steel... on top of raising the price!! 😵‍💫. No more new generations of the Connected for me if they follow this line, and the new 2022 Gen4 also will follow it… 😒

I also did not like that the new management liquidated the historic professional sports timekeeping division, mainly motorsports. A differentiating element with other watch brands that wanted to be linked much later and artificially to the world of motorsports. Although this division gave few or no benefits, it had to be maintained, for prestige, for tradition, for being consistent with the support for motorsports.

The feeling you get with decisions like the two mentioned, is that they only seek short-term profit, rather than betting on the quality and prestige (and history) of the brand… when a watch brand is largely based on its prestige, on its image, on its history.

I don't like the current line of the Carrera Sport and Carrera Elegant either... Please give me a CAR201Z or CAR201W before any of those. It has a much more personal design on case, lugs, straps… and I also like this dial much more:

And of course, I don't like the most recent consequence of the change from JC Biver to the current management: the closure of Calibre11 website... 🙁

I’ll remember this new management as the era where they decided to end Calibre11.. sadly but true 🙁

I’ll ask Steve McQueen. “Can you explain and expound more on your famous motorsport quote?”👍

But that's not Steve McQueen's quote, it's Michael Delaney's 😉

It also essentially means that the character lives to race, and the only time he truly feels alive is behind the wheel in the heat of competition. Whenever he's not, he's just waiting until the next opportunity to do so

The V4 was really interesting though, and was more of a halo model than a directional move. It also made good sense as TAG were trying to position themselves as technologically avant-garde (not just avant-garde in... the use of influencers maybe?... like they are now) and had a clear link to Heuer's motorsport-rich past with its automotive design.

I thought you died, how is it that you're still alive?
