hi guys,

I received this watch when my dad passed and it had some water damage. Had a local watchMaker open it up and he gave up on it but I’d like to find out what I have and if I can get it fixed/ restored.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Collin

Hi Colin,

You have a Calibre 12 Heuer Autavia from the 1970s- you can read about them here:

https://www.calibre11.com/ultimate-guide-to-the-vintage-heuer-autavia/

It has a nice original bracelet, although you are missing the end pieces. It will take some putting back together, but I think you'd be happy with the results

dc

I have the end links, they are not pictured. I’d like to get this back in working order, is my best bet to find a new movement or find someone to put this one back together?

Also, if I have to go the route of a new movement, what other watch brands could I look for that share the Calibre 12?

Thanks,

Collin

Suggest you first get it to someone with experience of Cal 11/12/14 and find out if it is all there. Some parts are available to a watchmaker with the right contacts.

Breitling, Hamilton, Zodiac, possibly Clebar and Tradition (Sears Roebuck). Breitling will be around in about the same numbers as Heuers, the others much fewer. If you do decide to source a replacement movement I'd like to make you an offer for that date wheel!

Nice Autavia and case looks great and nice to have the bracelet with it, which is very desirable.

If you look between the lugs on the case you will find the model number and between the other lugs the serial number. Then you can do some further fact finding.

Where are you located? The community should be able to point you in the right direction of some recognised watchmakers with Heuer or at least Calibre 12 experience I’m sure.

Well worth the effort to get up and running again!

Thanks. I’m located in San Diego, CA

Bought this today. Hoping now I will have enough pieces where I can get it working again.
