·Dear Friends
I just saw the discussions about my youtube video with Jonathan Scatchard and David Harper.
Well, I am not quite sure if the story of my grandfather Hubert Heuer is that well known, except by Jeff Stein, our Heuer Guru!😉
I have many books published by TAG Heuer, but Hubert and his valuable contributions to the company were rarely mentioned.
This must be because he intended to sell the company to Bulova in 1959. However…
In the video I talked about my beautiful Valjoux 88, I inherited from Hubert in 1978.
When I posted pictures of the watch on facebook a few years ago, I got terrible shitstorms from vintage Heuer collectors.
The watch was called a fake or a Franken. As it seems to have a Leonidas dial, I thought that this watch was especially produced for Hubert for his official retirement in 1965 (one year after the merger with Leonidas…)
Until I found a second, nearly identical watch.
It seems, that my thoughts and speculations were wrong.
As you can see, the serial und the case numbers are very close to each others, all marked with Ed.Heuer.
Maybe there was a small series of such watches in thr 40ies or 50ies.
Unfortunately and sadly, Jack Heuer cannot help me anymore to clarify this matter.
I would be very grateful if somebody could help!
Besides, bot watches are superb, dońt you think so?
Best JJ
