·The battery died in my watch and after replacement I noticed the minute and 10ths (?) subdial hands don't point at zero. Can this be fixed without taking it in?

·Yes. Pull the crown out and then use the pushers to move the hands. Don't know which hands work with which pushers, depends on the movement. You'll find two hands move at the first crown position, and two at the second position. Have a go, if you need any more help come back.
