Hi all,

Could someone with the modular 41 or 45 give me a honest opinion on how good it is. I had the gen 3, but didn't feel premium enough for me & couldn't get out of my head that it wasn't Swiss made.

Managed to sell it & pick up a ceramic aquaracer, but still have some cash left over for a used gen2.

Any help would be awesome

Well, I’m just in love with my Modular 45 collection (I find Modular 41 too small and not balanced with its thick bezel, and it has much less available accessories... more oriented to the female market)

Gen2 Modular is really special and with the unique TAG Heuer Modular concept that makes it different from any other watch (smartwatch or not) in the world

Gen2 is Modular (and obsolescence proof thanks to the mechanical modules), is Swiss Made at the TAG Heuer headquarters:

... all Gen2 different versions are made in titanium (while the steel Gen3 Made in China is more expensive than a titanium Gen2 Swiss Made! 🤦), and it has a strong TAG Heuer Carrera personality, because it shares design with the 2015 45mm Carrera Heuer 01, Heuer 02, and Heuer 02 Tourbillon... while 2020 Gen3 looks similar to a 2018 Huawei Watch GT and to some other cheap chinese smartwatches 🤦

The reason for these steps back? The TAG Heuer management has changed, and I guess now it’s all about profit with Gen3: making Gen3 in China, having basic versions made in steel, with less high end materials, without Modular system (for sure it was something expensive), and with a basic steel version at higher retail price than a titanium Swiss Made Gen2 Modular = much more profit for every watch sold... but for the customers is not a good deal. For sure I’m not going to change Gen2 for Gen3! I’m keeping with the Modular system and the #connectedtoeternity brilliant concept supported by previous CEO, Jean-Claude Biver: mechanical watch exchange program for Gen1, and mechanical modules for Gen2, but nothing for Gen3

In addition, Gen3 has a (too) darker automatic brightness mode than Gen2, and some Gen3 owners are reporting that it has trouble running certain watchfaces by WatchMaker that Gen1 and Gen2 do run normally. It is difficult to understand, when in theory the 3rd generation should be more powerful 😕

In this post I wrote a few more reasons why I like and prefer Gen2 to Gen3:

Thanks for the info, this is really helpful!

I'm mentioning the 41 as the 45 looks quite bulky & haven't got the biggest wrists. I also read that the screen is better on the 41?

You’re welcome! 👍

I would try both sizes before taking a decision. I did, and I went with no doubt for the 45. The 41 was too small for me (and I don’t have a big wrist), and also the strap was too small. There are two strap sizes for the 41: small (I guess mostly for women) and large, so if you go for the 41, be sure to get the proper size for you.

The screen on the 41 has better resolution, but it’s obviously smaller, so I also prefer the screen of the 45 because of its bigger size

If you live close to a TAG Heuer outlet store (like in Bicester), it’s a very good option buying there a Gen2 Modular brand new, with 2 year warranty, and 30% discount 😉

How does the battery hold up?

If I can get a full day with AOD on & full notifications, that'll do for me.

Yes 👍, I’m always wearing WatchMaker watchfaces (with higher consumption than the factory installed watchfaces), AOD on, Automatic brightness on, GPS on, full notifications on... everything on excepting NFC, and battery lasts around 20 hours with most of the watchfaces.

This was the consumption for this Formula 1 watchface:

You’re welcome, and congratulations! 😀 👍

But be careful, the Modular concept is very addictive, and there are a lot of available accessories for the Modular 45! 😁

That 02 looks great on your gen 3, the color combination between the watch and the face is perfect, I'm glad you like it !!! use this new version, I have made an improvement in the support of the central ruby and put the logo tag on top of the needles, in that tag the logo is above the glass 👍

and on the tourbillon I put the tag logos
