for years I shared this view and hated automatics, but these days autos are better and I’m lazier. I don’t think I want a sports car with a auto, but for a daily driver, why not?

Agree completely, I suppose what I’d left out is I enjoy living in a place with good public transit and that allows me to reserve the car for more of a fun experience 😀 I really do not enjoy having to daily drive a car

Targeting a 997 Turbo.
How about 996 turbo? I used to hate everything about the 996, not anymore. Those turbos are going up fast but are still reasonably affordable.

I know the 996 is coming back into fashion in a hipster-y way but I just do not like those slabby sides. The Turbo is definitely the most attractive of the lot, but it just doesn't have the same lovely vibe of even a base 997. And even though it's very fast the 996 Turbo is also not exactly known for its sharp handling, while the 997 Turbo seems to get better marks in that area.

I honestly don't want any car with an automatic, whether it's a CVT or a dual clutch or anything in between. Fortunately I don't have kids so I have the freedom to choose a sports car over anything - so I'm holding onto the S2000 until I can afford* a good 911. Targeting a 997 Turbo.
A few years back I got a call to come in and check out a lovely ideally spec’d yellow Cayman, wife liked it but after the test run decided it wasn’t the same fun with a roof so the S2k came home.
Only used an SUV (Range Rover) for when I needed a tow car, rest of the time it was someone else’s company car, 2 seats are plenty most of the time.

I'm finding that I'd rather be able to take a weekend trip or a fun drive in colder or rainy weather, so I'm definitely done with convertibles for now! They're fun to be sure, don't get me wrong. But I need more versatility.

Rain = 30mph+ over my head then.
Cold = superb heater with extra roof down vents and a hat.

If it’s really bad the soft top goes up at a touch of a button very quickly.
We have a sensible ‘warm’ hatchback too really crap weather or when we need more seats.

Nice body lines and black on red is a classic style for sure.
Even better with wings

The F50 isn't a particular favorite of mine, but I do really love the rear view.

Reminds me of the arcade classic Outrun and its sequels.

Yeah, fun ones. I came across a really elaborate version of the final OutRun game in a Tokyo arcade while I was there, in addition to the usual seat / pedals setup it had a clutch pedal and gated H-pattern shifter - modeled after the F50's interior no doubt. Boy was that fun 😁

The first picture is from the 312 Testarossa. Made famous ath the first Need For Speed in the beginning os 90s.

Every car from that game is in my wishlist forever.

Marcus Gronholm, Peugeot 206, Rally NZ '03. Another favorite of mine from the 2.0L era.
