Camaro 73643 Thoughts

I have an opportunity to purchase this original owner Camaro (no box or papers) and had a chance to confirm the model/serial number and get some quick pics this afternoon.

It's a model 73643, valjoux 7736, serial 193,xxx, and it has a service or inspection caseback engraving from 1983. The owner purchased it NOS in 1988 from a watchmaker supposedly who never sold it and was going out of business. The owner wore it for a few weeks and put it in a drawer soon after.

The dial has a nice chocolate finish to it and the hands are a vibrant orange. The white seconds hand has a minor scratch near the post but that was about all I could find. The case looks to be in good condition with some drawer storage scratches but otherwise it looks very good (at least to me).

I wanted to get input on the watch before I move forward. Does everything look original as I'm seeing it?

Looks very nice. I see no issues with the watch- although the strap is not original, as you probably know.

The dates are a little odd- why would a NOS watch from 1970 at the latest get a service in 1983 if it had never been sold? Anyway, that wouldn't put me off, as the watch speaks for itself.

It's pretty nice, the case is a little bit polished so I'm not sure how much time it actually spent in the drawer per the story, but everything's in order and I think you'll enjoy it. Depends on how much he's asking for it though....

I have to agree with you the case looks a bit polished on the sides but you can't believe everything you hear. The owner is looking for $4,000 and I'm obviously looking for less.

Make an offer, see what he takes.... to be honest I think 4k isn't too bad for this one. Certainly won't seem that way in a couple years!

That Camaro looks great! One little thing--the minute hand looks longer and it's lume is thinner than other 73643 examples I've seen. but regardless a very nice timepiece!

I had a second look and thought "Matthew's right- that second hand does look too long- never seen that!"

But then I looked around the web...and it does look correct..can't believe I haven't noticed that before!

Agree that the hand is a bit too long - it goes all the way to the seconds track, while the other examples from the Internet only touch the minutes / seconds track.

Just to clarify guys-are you talking about the MINUTE hand or the sweep (second) hand as there seems to be some crossover? I have a fair few of these listed and IMO the sweep hand is correct and the same as the others. I DO agree with Matthew (well spotted 😀 ) that the minute hand seems a bit long. But to be fair it's a very good replacement and can easily be overlooked on what is otherwise a very excellent example! 👍

Minute hand - think it comes from a similar era Camaro or other Heuer without a tachy track on the dial.

I believe the minute hand is too long, but everything else looks correct, and if you got it for $4k or less, I think you did quite well.
