anyone know what acceptable accuracy is for a calibre 16? My 9-month old aquaracer is gaining almost 2 mins/day, up until recently it's not noticeably gained anything.

This is the official data from TH about acceptable accuracy:
Quartz movement: between -1 and +11 seconds per month
Standard automatic: between -5 and +20 seconds per day
Chronometer: between -4 and +6 seconds per day

Anyway they usually perform better than this: my watches are all between -1 and +5 s/day

I read this trick in another forum, and it might work for you too?

Wait till the watch completely unwinds, as in stops moving. Then hand-wind the watch 50 revolutions. See if that improves anything. If not, you can always send it in for warranty service. But being off two minutes per day sounds like it could be magnetized.

Good luck!

Hi dtf. Have you travelled lately......say walked through a magnetic scanner at the airport? As your watch sounds like it is magnetised causing it to run fast. One of the TAG Heuer Boutiques should be able to check it for you.

Cheers,

Mark

As it happens, I flew back from Seattle a couple of days ago. IIRC I took my watch off and put it through the xray with my laptop and phone, but who knows what they did to it.

Almost definitely magnetism, the spring that controls the timing will have been magnetised, this means it clamps shut on itself and will not breathe correctly making the watch run fast. You need to go to a good watch repairer and get it degaussed.

Damn, thats very irritating. Do people just not fly with automatic watches? I've flown with my quartz aquaracer lots with no issues.

i'm afraid its almost always when they wave the magic wand over the tray in the airport that screws it up !i always put mine in a separate tray with my wallet and keys.

Calibre 16 being ETA 7750 based tends to be an extremely accurate movement when in good condition and regulated, they're a remarkably strong, solid and dependable chronograph.

From my collection, the 1887s tend to be very (maybe even most) accurate.
