Buying watches on eBay or Amazon

I apologize if this has been discussed before. If it has, feel free to point me to the other threads and delete this one.

I have been thinking about purchasing a new Tag Heuer watch but have not pulled the trigger (for various reasons). However, if I decide to pull the trigger, the two (2) that I am looking at are:

CAZ101AL.BA0842 ($2,400) - Red Bull Racing / F1
CAZ101AL.FT8052 ($2,200) - Red Bull Racing / F1

The watch that I want most of all is:

CAZ101B.FT8028 (~ $4,000) - Verstappen / F1 (Orange) - But it is hard to find and double the price.

Anyway, I recently thought about looking on eBay and/or Amazon for these watches and maybe buying one second-hand / used. I have found a couple that come with most of the original packaging and look like they are in great condition. Seeing that they are "used," they are also being sold at a discount (some discounted more than others; but I can find the Red Bull Racing watches for as low as $1,600 ... but usually around $1,800).

My question is whether anyone has experience or tips on buying a watch second-hand. I mean, if the watch breaks, can I still send it to TH and get it repaired? Is there any major difference in buying the watch second-hand vs. brand new that I should be aware of? It would be nice to save a couple hundred dollars, but I am not sure if the $200 to $300 in savings is worth it (??).

Thanks for any advice.

Ebay is indeed a joke, but don't think Amazon is any better. And even worse, Amazon sell on behalf of their customers, and they invite you to send your stock in which is then mixed in with theirs. So even if by some miracle Amazon did have genuine watches in their warehouse, they then pollute the stock with stock from God only knows where. And you can be sure as hell there's nobody at Amazon checking authenticity.

I am just picturing the scammers buying what they think is a real watch and returning a fake鈥nly to find they鈥檝e swapped a fake for a fake. PMSL.

Well, this is why I asked before I ran off and bought anything ... looks like eBay and/or Amazon are out of the question for me!!

Having said that, let me rephrase my question ... seeing that eBay and Amazon are not good places to buy a Tag Heuer watch; where can I go (online) to buy a used / second-hand watch for hopefully a bit of a discount? Does such a place exist? (Or is buying direct from Tag Heuer my only option? IF that is the case, what do I do when a watch is no longer offered by TH?)

Again, thanks for the help!!

I guess it depends on where you are located. Watchfinder is one of few places I trust. Some AD's have an official trade in/used watches program which is how I bought my only used watch. It was from a big, since 100 years back established AD that I trust. The most important aspect in my opinion would be to find a seller you trust.

You can also contact TAG Heuer to see if they offer an authentication service in your country. This way, if you buy from a reputable place, you can then have TAG Heuer authenticate it for you. It would be some work but with the world flooded with fakes, after the extra effort you would be able to sleep without worry after.

You'll hear a phrase " don't buy the watch, buy the seller". That's specifically applicable for pre-owned watches where you need to be extra cautious. You can find a trusted seller in the form of any retailer like Watchfinder, or your neighbourhood watch dealer; or even people on this forum since you're specifically after TAGs
