I think they need to increase the price quite significantly to make the Monaco more attractive and exclusive, the current mid range price segment is crowded with alternatives but if they make a new copy of the original c11 movement and price it around 20-30k it will be an instant hit among the wealthier collectors looking for something special

So then it's the Monacos in general which aren't selling, which probably means they are too expensive

Since last year's price increase, I did hear that Monaco sales had slammed to a halt. But the Cal 11 model still seems to be moving - both the CAW211P and the remaining examples of the Gulf.

I am a bit concerned about how the CAL11's will be serviced on the Monacos, if TH completely discontinue those movements.

I say this, because I seem to recall the practice was to replace the old movements when the watches are serviced.

And sourcing DD modules for that purpose shouldn’t really be a problem for a behemoth like LVMH…

Depends on who you ask then and if you're willing to pay for disassembly and cleaning of the module. Was it TAG Heuer official service who told you this or a local place?

More something I read happening at Omega with their DD modular movements:

Kind of weird that, imagine in 50 years people bitching that these watches are not all original

Even then what actually happens is, they don't throw it out - they just go instead to a central servicing capability where it's disassembled and refurbished in a more efficient assembly-line type of operation. While your watch in the meantime, has already received one of the previously refurbished units and is sent back to you in a timely manner (rather than however long it might take a single watchmaker to fully work on it)

Sounds quite sensible really, it's just that notion of hanging on to the thing you originally bought

I think the Monaco is too expensive, however I am not sure it's ever going to be mainstream like the Speedmaster or Daytona.

This is new information to me, I've been told by at least two places that the module is handled as trash, so cheap to buy brand new that there is no financial logic in servicing them

Def possible this is what TAG does with the DD module. But I know Omega services their modular chronos that way, and Tudor does most of their movements that way too.

A big square watch is not everyone's cup of tea for sure. I'd wager a Speedmaster is a much easier watch to sell, if only because it's round.

If only we had an actual TAG watchmaker in this place to sorten things out for us

The Monaco was an out there idea in the first place. It bombed and was never a classic in the line-up like the Carrera or Autavia. The Speedy has been around much longer and more importantly much more consistently. The Nasa links cemented it’s heritage.
I bet a lot more people like the Monaco than sales suggest but it’s not really a one watch candidate is it?
