Who is alec monopoly ?
If you work for TH PR, he's clearly an appropriate entry point to market TH as an aspirational upgrade brand from the tacky POS wristwatch the cash-rich, quality-poor, entitled youth market currently wear.
Sadly, anyone with any sense of TH history betond the past five seconds must surely weep as JCB sucks up to a Banksy-wannabe with too much ego to remain either aloof or anonymous save for some cliched bandana disguise and a very dubious, some might question whether it was licensed, connection with the Tycoon character on recent Monopoly board games.
I'm sure he has a degree of talent in his own narrow field, although I can't decide if his portrait of Steve McQueen looks more like Starsky or Hutch?

Allow me to rephrase.

He is a wannabe artist. Check his Instagram, and you'll get a better picture.

This is one of those figure with lavish and somptuous lifestyle, Bilzerian-style.
There are 2-3 "art" posts on that page and the rest is, well, I'll leave it as a surprise.

Really?! Mr. Biver is turning TAG into a sh**hole! Poor Jack, the pain he must be feeling seeing what his company is becoming....

Why does Biver have to personally feature so prominently in Tag Heuer marketing as well? Is that lending street cred to the brand? He's even in the TV ad that's running in the UK right now.

This obviously is a play towards expanding brand awareness towards millennials and hipsters. Like all the opinions posted so far, I wonder how much this new direction is detracting and potentially losing the appeal of original fans.

JCB keeps saying TAG Heuer needs to be Avant-Garde. I think they are taking the experimental & controversial approach a bit too far, while we are all hoping for modern, forward-loking, state-of-the-art, and rest of the other traits that will continue to make the brand innovative and a model for others to follow.

Avant-garde synonyms: innovative, original, experimental, left-field, inventive, ahead of the times, cutting/leading/bleeding edge, new, modern, innovatory, advanced, forward-looking,state-of-the-art, trend-setting, pioneering, progressive, Bohemian, groundbreaking, trailblazing, revolutionary

If you don't know the guy, you are not the target 😉
Either too old or too far... he's one of the most reknowed modern art artist and I'' sure youalready saw his main character, Mr Monopoly.
I can understand it surprises people, but that's an unusual move from TH. The field of modern art is wide open .... let's see what happen.
And remeber Jack started to sponsor car racing when no one was interested or even saw any benefit...

Well, there is maybe 10-20 Heuer fans here disliking this ambassador approach (including myself) but it still has thousands of likes or harts or whatever that is on instagram, so I guess that this ambassador madness will continue and I am afraid that we haven't seen the worst yet.

At least they still make great looking watches.

JCB is entertainment, I think he's hilarious. Watch his youtube video where he talks to some students for 25 minutes about Hublot. Brilliant.

What I don't understand about this type of extremely youthful brand ambassadorship is that it's trying to bring in the sub-25 age group (I would guess). However, how many folks in that age range have the finances to casually buy a $3000 - $5000 USD watch? My opinion on advertisements is that they should appeal to folks who want and are able to buy the product.

JCB frequently talks about the strategy on his interviews. Here are recent examples in video form:
