What are people’s thoughts on forged carbon watches in general? I just love the look of them, but I am sensing it’s not many people’s taste. That’s aside from the overall design of this particular model btw.
Personally I don’t like the look but hey, we’re all different, , is there an advantage to it? Or is it, “because we can”?
It’s lighter, I guess, but that’s an upside or downside depending on taste. Proper answer is, it’s just because we can. I like the uniform lovely finishes of Steel and Titanium, plus more exotic metals too, but I am also drawn to the random unique patterns of the forged carbon at the same time.
There are certain watches which look good otlr would look good with forged carbon - the RMs, the Zeniths of the world. Carbon cases need to be big and bulky to really show-off their value. The Monza, or any Tag watch, is not big enough (read as a bulky case) to pull that off. Possibly a Carbon Monaco 24 would have been a good contender due to its size.
If the Monza came with a matching forged carbon bracelet, with a black camo pattern, that could've added to the masculinity factor of the watch and would have been a head turner. Something similar to these G-Shocks
I have to agree there. This Monza doesn’t have the presence of say the Zenith Defy Carbon, which is my favourite tbh.
at the thick end of 12 grand, not for me (or even half that). I often wonder what the mgt meetings must be like as they release something very good for 6 grand, and a horrific thing for 12. they must have a clue surely…..
There are plenty of buyers with money but no taste or sense of style. Just witness all the other even more expensive, f'ugly watches that get made and sold.
I honestly don't know why they did this, they couldn't even sell all the carbon Aquaracers for £2500... they ended up at BV.
I like the Polychrome tourbillon, but I get it's not for everyone. The boutique in Sheffield got one, sold it in 2 days. A £21000 watch with a rainbow skeleton dial. They would probably sell this too...
Were they actually carbon thou? I thought the ‘carbon’ aquaracer was actually a carbon bezel with a very low res print of carbon fibre for a dial?
I thought that too, but actually the dial was some sort of carbon. Or had some carbon in it. I think it was carbon fibres set in resin or something? Plus the case was DLC titanium IIRC. I think the lugs were carbon too....
Per Hoodinkee (that oh-so-accurate source of watch information): The dial has always looked to me like it was printed on an inkjet in the 90s, see the area helpfully magnified by the cyclops:
What nonsense I talk, the lugs are part of the case! I was getting mixed up with the Carrera Carbon. Sorry. Looks like old fashioned news print. They did a horrible job explaining and everybody thought it was 'carbon effect' dial.
