It kinda reads like the guy didn't actually like the colour... I had to read it twice. Looks like a clever way of writing that it could be a bit ambiguous.
Well it was also a super lazy article overall, and dropped nearly a week after the release too. Prob Hodinkee just holding up their end of the bargain with their LVMH owners and dashing off a release for every new watch even though they clearly don't care
Well yeah he writes straight out that he doesn't like the colour so I don't think he likes the colour no
I'm reading the Hodinkee article again now on a big screen and I'm surprised by the length of the article - barely half a page. Although this is a refreshing change from the unlimited Monaco articles where the authors go on and on about the history of the watch, SMcQ association and all, it still feels very lazy writing. The only effort done is to put links of the various Monaco variants - and that too was done lazily that only the releases from the last 3 years were covered (ironically, last year's green was not included). I think "print authors" care about the number of clicks that an article would attract and hence decide the effort they want to put into writing the article. Monacos are not as sexy when compared to the "tier 1" VCs, APs, etc. I actually find this good because it allows Monacos (and Tag / Heuer in general) a more accessible brand which is not subject to the utter disregard of the grey market. Leave the Monacos for the lovers please!!!
Oh yeah, why does anyone think the world needs another youtube video about Steve McQueen and the Monaco?
A good op piece. I loved the alternate strap suggestion - reminds me of what a smart man once suggested "I think I'll get a nice purple reptilian strap made".
No. 001/500 for the purple Monaco has popped up on C24 for £9500 !!! Purchased from a small town called Solihull in UK .... Imagine that!!!!
Yup, no kidding. TAG Heuer Monaco (Submodel) £9,500 https://chrono24.app/tagheuer/monac...500--id24791359.htm?SETLANG=en_GB&SETCURR=GBP
These prices.... who is paying £9000 for a Monaco? Especially now there's a new Carrera, the purple Monaco is already old news...
Agreed - completely bonkers. But I suppose someone may want number one enough to pick it up eventually!
For sure, the show off factor of "no. 1" is still prevalent. You still have last year's green dial Monaco being sold in 7500 £ range.
Well, that’s the ask - whether they are moving at that price is a different question of course. I got nowhere close to that when I offloaded mine unfortunately.
I concur asking is not a good indicator, the Zenith cover girl airweight is listed on C24 with asking prices around €14k, but I know of a FS on a Dutch watchforum 200 below original RRP of 9.7k and not moving.
