I think this is my favourite TAG Heuer release in many years. It looks fantastic on the rubber strap.

Anyone else think they had some inspiration from this?

Could be. I had thought they were following Grand Seiko, glad to see there's something in the Heuer back catalog too.

I will say that I give TAG credit with this latest GMT for trying to do their own thing. It just that they've got tough competition and the look isn't my cup of tea.[/QUOTE

really like this. Did you happen to try the rubber strap version. Interested to know what it wears like.

Yes, the rubber is the exact same blue rubber strap available for the standard Aquaracer. I didn't get a good photo of it because it wasn't cut to size, so it's very very loose on the wrist until you buy it and they cut it. The clasp on them does have a micro-adjust though which is good.

Didn’t realise they cut it. Thought it might be a similar approach to the leather.
I’ll have to try one on. Did you like the watch?

No, this is the same old Sellita.

I think it looks nice too, but $4k for a Sellita ‘caller’ GMT is no longer viable as the Black Bay GMT is the same price, plus there are now true GMT movements in watches costing under $1000.

Except that the Tudor BB GMT has a somewhat thicker case and a painted aluminum bezel, which from experience, is quite susceptible to scratching.

Can't help but think a lot of customers will buy this because it looks 'cool' regardless of the technical details.

TAG Heuer mission statement?

Well, it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in a boutique wouldn't it? I imagine for every person that comes in, looks at the GMT and dismisses it because it has a crappy caller movement, 20 come in and coo over the bezel and the yellow second hand. Where is the incentive for TAG to upgrade?

People who walk into a boutique to buy this don't have any idea what the difference is between a caller and traveler movement - its a made up thing to make rolex owners feel more special and give the watch media something to fill space about.

All aquaracer rubber straps can be adjusted only by being cut to fit your wrist

I am 99% sure i will buy this watch just because 1. i was looking for a blue dial and 2. it had to have a rubber strap 3. to be on my taste.
All other details i really do not care...😀 if i want movement or brand, i will wear my other watches

No, they've decided to go with a cut-to-size option. Probably because it fits the micro-adjust clasp better - there's no overhang.

The watch itself is fine, it's the same size as the regular Aquaracer and aside from the GMT hand and white portion of the bezel is actually the standard blue-dial Aquaracer - so if you've tried that one on, chances are you'd like this one.

Except that the Tudor BB GMT has a somewhat thicker case and a painted aluminum bezel, which from experience, is quite susceptible to scratching.

I haven't had that problem with mine, but I also don't mind the minor difference in thickness.

It's definitely not a "made-up difference" - actually traveling with a caller GMT is kind of a pain compared to the fun of being able to quickly switch the local hour on a flyer GMT. After having owned 3 caller GMTs, there's a reason that only the Black Bay GMT remains in my collection and there's a reason I won't buy another caller GMT.

I bought the original Yema Superman GMT blue/grey because it looked cool; I sold it because it wasn't very fun to wear.

I think Doug might have been being flippant there.... personally I'd buy it cos it looks cool. I have owned two GMTs and never actually used the function on either.
