You guys love to "hate" on the Riviera, yet you can't stop posting about it. Reminds me of the grade school bully who constantly picks on a girl because he secretly has a crush on her. 馃檮

I can faithfully promise you I do not and will never have a crush on that terrible disaster of a watch.

I'm actually more intrigued by the price being quoted. The high price is either because of the already high retail price of the watch, or possibly because its an uber limited edition. I've got all 3 Rivieras on C24 in my watchlist, just for the fun of tracking the prices.

I had actually thought about what would it take for me to buy this watch, and then what else can I do to make me wear it?? I'm willing to pay max 10k USD for the full set, with potentially a nice tiffany blue leather strap.

What was the actual list price? I mean considering it's really just a regular Heuer 02 anything more than 拢10000 is a joke.

that's the question here. The watch was released exclusively in the TAG Monaco boutique without any fanfare. I agree it should not be more than 拢6000, but i suppose the boutique exclusive + 30 piece LE + tiffany blue wave + 2021 Only Watch homage might have an influence on the retail.

Yeah, I mean a regular watch is 拢6000 so okay it's super limited skeleton, hideous colour scheme that all adds to it, so okay let's say 拢9000-10,000. But people were talking 拢30,000....

Well maybe.... haha. It's not like they gave us the specs or anything, and they took the photos from a helicopter.

Earlier in this thread we discussed the retail price; @abrod520 had been told $17,500 USD by one of his TAG sources and I was told 25k euro by an owner who supposedly bought at retail. So it's likely one of those two figures.

Wow, that's hilarious
I think this demonstrates clearly that TAG still has priced the standard Monacos way too low. I think it would make more sense to see the H02 Monacos around 12-15k.

Oh wow, thanks for that. Didn't realise this was already known. $17500 is actually the Monza Carbon territory then!!!

No no I am fully serious. Being the icon that it is I think they should strategically place it higher to make it even more desirable and luxurious. Long term I think this would pay off by transforming TAG Heuer into a luxury brand, rather than just entry level affordable luxury for the masses. I sense that we are seeing small but interesting steps more towards making TAG luxury in recent times, with more gold, kennisi movements, lab diamonds, carbon, flybacks. And now in 2023 with solid gold Aquaracers and Carreras on the horizon, my overall impression is that TAG is on its way towards becoming luxury. If they manage to replace the calibre five into an "in house" kenissi calibre I think the mechanical entry level TAG for Aquaracer and F1 will make total sense starting around 7k for rubber strap models.

If TAG is looking to go that route they will have decades of history to overcome to get to be seen as luxury. What they should be doing is taking on Tudor, Omega and Breitling in terms of price and quality. They will need to first overcome the perception of TAG and quality problems that currently overshadow the brand. Kennisi movements may help or may not. People, forum folks, still bring up the Tudor GMT date issue and this happened years ago on its release.

Having halo releases that elevate the perception of the brand should definitely continue. They heighten brand visibility and perceptionThey should also be constrained releases as to not make it to the grey market and dump in price. This will help elevate the normal run Aquaracer, Carrera, Formula 1, ect... but those have to be quality products that deliver more than the competition to overcome years of history.

I have worked in the service department for Cadillac for almost forty years and have seen a brand struggle to overcome the damage the brand and the American car companies did to themselves in the seventies and eighties. If not for the Escalade and V Series vehicles released in the 2000's, I am not sure Cadillac would still be here. These halo products have helped keep the brand viable. They are hoping the Lyriq, an electric vehicle, will help transform the image of the brand. To do so they are going after Tesla but to do so they have to first offer more than a Tesla in price and quality. Only after proving themselves will they be able to ratchet up the pricing. I feel TAG is in the same boat.

I am waiting to see where things go with the new management. My feeling is that most of the last couple years releases were already in motion prior to Frederic's coming on board. I am thinking it takes a bit of time to design and come out with new product.

I hope they "stay in their lane" price wise but strive upward quality wise. They should be proud that they are thought of and many folks' first luxury watch. They need to have a path that keeps them, customers, engaged with the brand through their life cycle. Like car manufacturers try to do by offering a entry vehicle all the way to halo expensive vehicles. Then offer great reliable service and quality products so they don't think of changing brands.

^I totally agree with @thingziliketoo

TAG has not yet earned the right to inflate their prices. Reliability issues still linger and the majority of the watches aren't even COSC, while their competitors are.

The quality, technical excellence and perception of the brand isn't where it needs to be, to raise prices just to be seen as more "luxury" will not end well.
