We should create a chart with me at one end, you at the other and everyone else in between. I reckon Jim would be about half way between the middle and you...
Prediction: Buyers will stay away in droves. Too expensive and ugly-looking, with no appeal to the only people who recognize the Autavia name? Boy, TAG's really setting themselves up for success with this one...
My guess? To make it more like a day/night indicator - but also probably to help it stand out a bit as @Mr_Orange guesses.
Doesn’t make it so logical to read? On my gmt MB I know the gmt hand is following the same track and can read it easily, saying that I can usually remember if I’m 1 or 3 (whatever)hours from home and do the sums in my head, but it’s still nice having a toy.
No, it doesn't lol. But there are plenty of watches making concessions to aesthetics at the dispense of functionality, so I wouldn't knock TAG too hard on this one. Besides, it's a "caller" GMT so you probably wouldn't really be adjusting the hand much anyways.
Because if it was at the top then the white/blue (day/night) pattern would have been reversed either, which would look odd?
Remember that the day/night pattern is new to this model. The previous models just had a consistent colour around the internal bezel. It is likely that the introduction of the colour scheme dictated that the numbering be changed too.
After reading Robs blog post, it makes more sense - it's like the position of the sun. Not sure my brain would find that as easy to read as a traditional gmt, but it's an interesting touch.
Yeah, I think TAG figures that because it's not a 'true' GMT (the GMT hand is independently set but still slaved to the hour hand) nobody will actually be using it for dual-time tracking.
ABTW goes hands on with them new three handed Carreras. They made the excellent choice to review the silver version, pure class. https://www.ablogtowatch.com/review-tag-heuer-carrera-calibre-5-39mm-41mm-watches/ "while TAG Heuer does make a lot of watches for timepiece collectors and aficionados, the brand’s bread & butter has always been mainstream luxury Swiss Made watches" "I’m merely discussing all of this so that TAG Heuer fans can understand what these products are meant for and what the company itself might be thinking during the development process" Case finishing seems to be improved compared to the previous generation, contrast with the polish looks really nice "Wearing comfort for the watches is high, with my preference being the Carrera on the matching steel bracelet with its solid yet simple push-button fold-over deployant clasp. The new bracelet is, indeed, a highlight of the watches"
I really like the 39mm versions. The Carrera case at this size is very comfortable and the changes for this new model look like a nice subtle improvements on a clean design.
